Checking in with your kids about how he or she feels about classmates, teachers
and other people at school is a good way to get a sense of who is and isn't
respected in their school. You can also get a conversation about respect
going by asking them if they feel respected. How do they know that others
respect them? Who gets treated badly by classmates and how are they treated
badly? Following the leader by taunting someone who is different is not
uncommon. You can talk with your child about the times they have been picked
on as a reminder of how unpleasant a feeling this is.
Character talks for this age can be useful. You can have conversations about
how you expect your child to treat others and how you want them to handle
peer pressure to pick on or ridicule others.
Sometimes it's difficult to know what's really going on during at school.
Creating the time to go over their homework, and hear about their day can
give you lots of information about how your child feels about the school
environment.

Encourage
them to speak their own mind, and act on what they know to be right
even if others don't.
