| |  |   | |  | HERB SCANNELL President, Nickelodeon Networks, MTV Networks Group President Herb Scannell was named President, Nickelodeon Networks, MTV Networks Group President in June, 2003 by MTV Networks Chairman Tom Freston. In this position, Mr. Scannell is a member of the MTV Networks Management Committee and plays a lead role in the overall management of the company. Mr. Scannell is responsible for all creative and business operations at Nickelodeon, the #1 kid’s entertainment brand; Nickelodeon’s digital television offerings Noggin/The N, Nickelodeon Games and Sports and NickToons Television; TV Land, the highest rated cable network to launch within the past seven years; and the first network for men, Spike TV. He has served as President of Nickelodeon and TV Land since 1996, and in September, 2000 added oversight of TNN, which has been rebranded as the first network for men under the Spike TV banner. Under Mr. Scannell’s leadership, Nickelodeon has been the number one-rated cable network for eight consecutive years in total day ratings. He has successfully led Nickelodeon’s continuing innovations in original TV programming for kids and expanded Nickelodeon’s brand into feature films, consumer products, magazines, online and live theatrical shows. Nickelodeon is now seen in 149 territories in 300 million homes around the world, and provides kids programming in 30 different languages. Honored with the 2001 NAMIC Vision and Imagen awards, Mr. Scannell and Nickelodeon received acclaim by critics and advocates for its continued leadership and groundbreaking commitment to diversity with shows such as Dora The Explorer, The Brothers Garcia, Little Bill and Romeo! Nickelodeon is the preeminent producer of original programming for kids on television. In 1996, Mr. Scannell secured a $350 million investment in original animation for Nickelodeon, which resulted in the construction of Nicktoons Studio in Burbank, CA, the first animation studio constructed in Los Angeles in 35 years. Mr. Scannell also commissioned the creation of a digital animation studio in New York, NY, to compliment Nickelodeon’s studio facilities in Orlando, FL and Hollywood, CA. The results of this investment have been a string of the most popular animated kids' shows in TV history, including Rugrats to Dora the Explorer, The Wild Thornberrys, Hey Arnold!, Fairly OddParents and the number one kids show in television, SpongeBob SquarePants. In 1996, following the runaway popularity of Nick at Nite, Mr. Scannell successfully launched TV Land, a 24-hour network dedicated to Classic TV. TV Land has proven to be one of cable television’s most successful network launches. Now seen in more than 82 million homes, TV Land’s broad mix of sitcoms, westerns, variety shows and drama have made the network a consistent Top 10 network.
