About Nick

Nick Public Affairs

Here at Nickelodeon, we take our role as a leader in the kids' entertainment industry to heart. As part of our commitment to kids, our public affairs department supports a variety of initiatives that empower young people and help us, as a company, to better understand them. At the end of the day, we know that what's good for kids is also good for business.

Public Affairs Campaigns
Nickelodeon’s Public Affairs department is the creative force behind on air initiatives like Let’s Just Play,
The Big Help and Kids Pick the President. These initiatives help empower kids to be active participants in their communities and their world.

Let’s Just Play
Let's Just Play is a national multi-media campaign and grassroots effort to get kids more physically active and encourage more positive, healthy and playful lifestyles. Nickelodeon's Let's Just Play, in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, will employ PSA's, celebrity endorsements, community events, partnerships and grassroots efforts to reinforce the pure value of play and to challenge community infrastructures to support re-investment in recreational resources for kids.

The Big Help
The Big Help is an ongoing campaign created by Nickelodeon's Public Affairs division. At its inception, in 1994, the Big Help focused on encouraging kids to pledge hours to volunteer in their communities. Televised public service announcements and "Big Help a Thons" encouraged 35 million kids to pledge over 400 million volunteer hours to help their communities. The Big Help has grown to include a focus on the environment, and other prosocial initiatives.

Nickelodeon and the Kaiser Family Foundation join forces in our Nickelodeon Talk campaign
Here at Nickelodeon we act as advocates for kids by informing the world about what's on their minds. We form partnerships with other advocacy groups across the country to support pro-kid policies and campaigns, and to promote public health and safety messages to kids. Our current relationship with the Kaiser Family Foundation is just one example of such a partnership.

Research
Nickelodeon is a leader in the field of kid research and we're proud of our ability to listen to and understand our young audience. But we don't want to keep all this data to ourselves. So we share our knowledge in a number of ways-through partnerships, like the Nickelodeon/Time Kids' State of the Union poll, with regular mailings to members of congress, the department of education, parent and educational organizations, and kid advocacy groups. Inside Kids is our online library of kid research.

Educational Initiatives
Nickelodeon has placed considerable creative energy behind educational programs and initiatives that support teachers. One of these initiatives is our teachers.nick.com website, which provides educators with lesson plans for use in conjunction with our award-winning "Nick News" program as well as other shows aimed at elementary- and preschool-aged kids.

In 1999, Nickelodeon launched Noggin in partnership with Sesame Workshop. Noggin is the first ever thinking network for kids, which derives its spark from kids' natural desire to learn. Kids have an unbounded curiosity and Noggin helps them to follow it.

In September of 2000, Noggin programming was added to Nickelodeon's commercial free cable in the classroom block with teacher support materials and standards based lesson plans made available on teachers.nick.com.
