MODMSG hard38: Who is the leader and who decided on calling the group Baha Men?

nickyapper: That's a great question!!

Rick_Carey: The leader's name is Isiah Taylor...

nickyapper: There's a whole lot of you Baha Men!!

Rick_Carey: He calls all the shots and everything like that.

Rick_Carey: The name Baha Men came from the record company, named after the Bahamas.

Rick_Carey: They decided to go with that since we're from there. They brainstormed...and I guess they decided to go with it!

MODERATOR: magic 4583 is barking out this question and barking on key too!

MODMSG magic4583: What inspired you to write "Who Let the Dogs Out?"

Rick_Carey: We didn't write that song.

Rick_Carey: The song was written by a Trinidadian named Anslen Douglas.

Rick_Carey: It was basically for a kind of a...carnival kind of song. It was written 2 years ago.

Rick_Carey: And it's very popular in the Carribean.

MODERATOR: gabola2000 is wondering...

MODMSG gabola2000: Is the dog in the video yours?

nickyapper: Getting down to the details...

Marvin_Prosper: We rented them!!

nickyapper: Wow—can you do that??

Rick_Carey: I wish they were mine, but they were all rented dogs.

MODMSG m4u: If you had a choice to be on a cartoon, which cartoon character would you be?

Rick_Carey: OHHHH!!!

Omerit_Hield: Hey, m4u, thanks for your question, man!

Omerit_Hield: If I had a chance to be in a cartoon I think it would be "The Simpsons."

Omerit_Hield: I would be Bart!

Marvin_Prosper: Who would I wanna be? I would like to be a transformer!!!

Marvin_Prosper: *TRANSFORMERS, ROBOTS IN DISGUISE!!*

nickyapper: "Transformers!! More than meets the eye!!!"

Rick_Carey: Um, let me see...I guess I would like to...

Rick_Carey: I would like to be SPIDERMAN!

Rick_Carey: Number one, because I was always a Spiderman fan. I always read his comics growing up. And I was always a fan!

MODERATOR: hilbilly is having a hillbilly moment and would like to know...

MODMSG hilbilly: What is your favorite song besides "Who Let the Dogs Out?"

Rick_Carey: Ok, Hillbilly...to answer your question...my favorite song on the album would be "You Can Get It."

Rick_Carey: And the other song, which will always be my favorite song, is Stevie Wonder's "Ribbons in the Sky"!

Omerit_Hield: From the album, I'd have to say my favorite song is "Get Your Party On."

Omerit_Hield: And other than that I'd have to say "Still in Love" by Brian McKnight.

MODERATOR: chipeater is always nervous about asking this one :)

MODMSG chipeater: Do you get nervous when you go on stage?

Rick_Carey: Never...

Marvin_Prosper: Chipeater...NEVER!!!

Omerit_Hield: I don't ever get nervous, man.

Rick_Carey: Although there was this one time...

Rick_Carey: I think it would be the very first time we performed. I didn't know what to expect. I had butterflies. But I overcame that very quickly.

MODERATOR: jayjay61 has a behind-the-scenes question for you (I love the behind the scenes scoops!)

MODMSG jayjay61: Hey guys, I just want to know how long it takes to make music videos.

Omerit_Hield: Hey, jayjay61, it took us about two days to do our video, but it really depends on the video.

Omerit_Hield: Some take up to a week—two weeks.

Rick_Carey: A week or two weeks—stuff like that.

Marvin_Prosper: Especially if you want to perfect it to its best!

nickyapper: Do you guys like making videos?

Omerit_Hield: We love it. It's a lot of work, though.

MODERATOR: Hey guys! Weren't you on Slimetime? I slimed Yapper the other night and she looked great in green! How did you like it?

nickyapper: Slime feels good!!

Marvin_Prosper: I liked it very much!!

Marvin_Prosper: Tastes very good!!

Marvin_Prosper: Like yogurt!

MODMSG nickfrog: How do you sing so fast?

Marvin_Prosper: It takes practice. It doesn't come overnight!

Marvin_Prosper: You take your time in between. Breathing...you take a breath and then you take another breath and sing with that.

MODERATOR: shadow11 is asking a great question from the great state of Maine!

MODMSG shadow11: Will you guys ever do a tour and go to all 50 states—especialy Maine?

Rick_Carey: YO shadow what's up? That would be a long tour!!!!

Marvin_Prosper: Indeed!

Omerit_Hield: That would be a long tour. Hopefully we will do as many states as we can.

Marvin_Prosper: Tommy!!! He's cool!!!!

Rick_Carey: That question has been asked before...Angelica!!! She's disgusting!!! Her character really fits the whole cartoon. Someone you really love to hate.

Omerit_Hield: If I could be any animal, I would be a lion...because my birth sign is a Leo.

Marvin_Prosper: I would like to be a horse. My sign is a Sagittarius, and I'm really romantic!

Rick_Carey: an eagle!! Fly like an eagle...

Rick_Carey: There's no real meaning, but it's one of the most dominant birds.

Rick_Carey: I dropped out of the sky...

Rick_Carey: I was born on the Earth!

Rick_Carey: All of us came from Nassau, Bahamas.

Omerit_Hield: Yes, all of us born in Nassau, the paradise of the islands.

MODMSG nickmare: What's the best thing about singing professionally and what's the worst thing?

Omerit_Hield: The best thing is the opportunity to see the world, have fans screaming and cheering for you...

Omerit_Hield: and just being on stage performing.

Omerit_Hield: One of the negative things is being away from home.

Omerit_Hield: Sometimes you miss your family and your friends.

Omerit_Hield: Another is losing sleep because one day you're in one city, the next day you're in another.

MODERATOR: 198 bowl would like some background info on you :)

MODMSG 198 bowl: How long have the Baha Men been together?

Rick_Carey: The band has been around from the early '80s, but they changed the name to Baha Men when they got the record deal.

Rick_Carey: What happened is that the old, original singer left to go with Lenny Kravitz.

Rick_Carey: And so, that's where it happened.

nickyapper: So, how long have you been fronting the band?

MODERATOR: ultima316 has a controversial question and would love to know where you all stand on it :)

MODMSG ultima316: Are you for or against mp3s?

Omerit_Hield: I think I'm really against it...

Omerit_Hield: I feel if you like a person's music, you should support them by going out and buying their albums...

Omerit_Hield: or it's really stealing.

MODMSG bwiliams51: Hey, I love your song and video! I just wanted to know...Who is your favorite singer?

Marvin_Prosper: bwilliams51, my fave singer and idol would be somehwhat like Michael Jackson or Marvin Gaye.

Omerit_Hield: My favorite singer, I'd have to say, is Brian McKnight.

Rick_Carey: My favorite singer would be Stevie Wonder, of course, and Eric Benet.

Marvin_Prosper: SUBWAY!!

Rick_Carey: My favorite food would have to be Italian food—or pastas. I love to cook pastas, and I love the smell of tomatoes on food. Pasta!

Omerit_Hield: My favorite food is Chinese.

Marvin_Prosper: My favorite food would be junk food!

MODERATOR: hollykaul hopes you have time to relax while on the road!!

MODMSG hollykaul: What do you like to do in your spare time?

Rick_Carey: First, in my spare time, it used to be just drawing, but now it's always been producing, writing, and listening to music.

Rick_Carey: Before all of that, I always try to appreciate the things around me.

Marvin_Prosper: Aw, that's sooo sweet!

Omerit_Hield: Spare time—what's that??

Rick_Carey: Aw c'mon, man!

Omerit_Hield: When we do have spare time, I like to listen to my CDs. I enjoy music from different artists..

Omerit_Hield: And shopping. How could I forget that?

Marvin_Prosper: OK, ok...let me get my input in!

Marvin_Prosper: I like to listen to other people's music and I like to write poems.

MODERATOR: I almost couldn't open this mail! It was stapled together and I bet I know who did it!

MODMSG nickmyst: From the nick.com mailbag: When is your next CD coming out?

Omerit_Hield: Hey, nickmyst, we're really not sure...it will probably be some time next summer.

Omerit_Hield: That's kinda up in the air right now.

Rick_Carey: I'm waiting to see the new Rugrats movie!!!!

MODMSG chessdude: What sports do you guys play?

Rick_Carey: Basketball. That's the number one sport.

Rick_Carey: The second sport would be swimming.

Omerit_Hield: My favorite sport, I'd have to say, is volleyball.

Marvin_Prosper: Hi, chessdude! Well, my sport is more like running and drawing...artwork!

Omerit_Hield: That's a sport??

MODERATOR: bpyser1 has a follow up question about your recording time.

MODMSG bpyser1: How long does it take you you make an album?

Rick_Carey: Something like that varies. It depends on the workload of the producers.

Rick_Carey: There are so many things involved with the producers, writers and engineers. Albums can take a month and a half to a whole year!

Rick_Carey: And sometimes that doesn't include mastering!

MODERATOR: wes405 is a regular here and a big fan of Baha Men!

MODMSG wes405: When was your first break?

Omerit_Hield: wes405, I'd have to say our first big break in the U.S. was with this song "Who Let the Dogs Out?"

Omerit_Hield: In July of this year—this summer.

MODERATOR: tilky has a sugar cone ready for you!

MODMSG tilky: What are your favorite types of ice cream??

Rick_Carey: tilky!!!! My favorite ice cream would be California Crunch.

Rick_Carey: In case you don't know what that is, it's butter pecan ice cream with almonds, walnuts, dates and sometimes has chocolate sauce!

Omerit_Hield: My favorite flavor would be any cheesecake flavor...especially strawberry or blueberry cheesecake.

Marvin_Prosper: tilky! My fave would be NONE because I don't eat dairy food. But I eat it now and then!

MODERATOR: indogyrl42 is asking this one from the doorway...see her over there waving?

MODMSG indogyrl42: If you got to go anywhere in the world...where would you go and why?

Omerit_Hield: Yo, indogyrl142...

nickyapper: OOH, he's having a hard time with this one.

Omerit_Hield: I would go to Germany...

Omerit_Hield: because my ancestors are from Germany, so I'd go to research my heritage.

Marvin_Prosper: OK!!! indogyrl, where would I go in the world?

Marvin_Prosper: I would go straight to your heart, if you let me!!!!

Rick_Carey: I think , um...I would love to go to...

Rick_Carey: I would love to go to France, any Southern Carribean Island...

Rick_Carey: It's romantic on the islands. I would love to spend some time with my sweetheart. I know it 's tacky, but I miss her.

Rick_Carey: No.

Omerit_Hield: Yes we did...Imani Copella!

Rick_Carey: Oh, that's right!!!

MODMSG inventior: Have you ever had something bad happen on stage?

Omerit_Hield: inventior, I bought these new shoes one time we did a show...

Omerit_Hield: and I went out on stage, and I almost tripped up...

Omerit_Hield: I didn't fall—but I almost did.

MODMSG nickmyst: Do you guys have temper tantrums on the road with each other?

Omerit_Hield: Oh, yes!

Rick_Carey: Yes, we do!!!! Not all of us, but when you have a large organization like this, some people will disagree.

Rick_Carey: But the main thing is that we resolve our problems.

Marvin_Prosper: We settle problems and stuff on a mature level!

Marvin_Prosper: LOL

Omerit_Hield: Yes, sometimes we do, as Rick and Marvin said, but we resolve our differences...sometimes we do get stormy.

Rick_Carey: I would have to say Earth, Wind and Fire, or Mint Condition.

Omerit_Hield: If I could play with another band I would want to do something with a group like *NSYNC, or Britney.

Marvin_Prosper: My stage name is Storm!

Rick_Carey: I'm going to reveal something, it's kind of funny...

Rick_Carey: My nickname is Rick. My real name is Patrick Carey, Jr.

Rick_Carey: Back home in Nassau, all my friends had a funny name for me because of my hair.

Rick_Carey: I had an afro, and it was kinda nappy. They called me Sonic, after Sonic the Hedgehog.

Rick_Carey: We also call Omerit, Merit

MODMSG: What scares you the most?

Rick_Carey: Everyone knows what I'm scared of...spiders!!!

Marvin_Prosper: xvjasonvx!!! What scares me the most is when I'm inside a plane and the airpockets hit the plane!!

Marvin_Prosper: I'm always under the seat because I'm scared!! TURBULANCE!!!

Omerit_Hield: Believe it or not, dogs really scare me! As a child I used to go to a nursery...

Omerit_Hield: and they had a bunch of dogs, and I got attacked by ten dogs.

Omerit_Hield: Ever since then, I've been afraid of dogs.
