Michelle Trachtenberg Chat MODERATOR: We're getting ready to talk vampires and demons with Michelle Trachtenberg of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Michelle will be chatting LIVE at nick.com's headquarters. MODERATOR: I can't wait! I just love "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." I've been watching it forever!! And Michelle is no stranger to Nickelodeon. She spent years as a member of the cast of "The Adventures of Pete and Pete" and played the title role in "Harriet the Spy," Nickelodeon's first feature film! We're really lucky to have Michelle Trachtenberg—the latest addition to the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" cast—here to chat with us and answer all your questions! nickyapper: Say hi to Michelle Trachtenberg everybody!! MODERATOR: Michelle, welcome and say hello to our guests here in nick.com's Blab-a-torium!! Michelle_T: Hey everybody! Thank you for signing in and chatting with me...I'm looking forward to answering your questions! MODERATOR: Michelle, it's great having you here with us tonight! Our first question is from dorin!! And compliment too :) MODMSG dorin: Does Michelle have any upcoming projects, aside from "Buffy"? Is Michelle a beauty pageant queen? She looks like she could win any pageant she enters. Michelle_T: Thank you very much...that's very flattering! Michelle_T: Actually, there are a couple of projects I'm going to do after "Buffy," but as of right now I'm concentrating on "Buffy" with my heart and soul. Michelle_T: But you guys will know when anything else comes up. MODERATOR: harrietm81 has a strange question for ya! MODMSG harrietm81: What's the strangest thing that ever happened to you and who do you think is cute in show business? Michelle_T: Gosh, that's a very interesting question, harriet...it's hard to think of a spur of the moment answer. Michelle_T: I've been pretty lucky to have good experiences while acting. Hopefully I'll continue to have those good experiences. Michelle_T: I don't really have any crushes on anyone right now...but everyone is very talented, so you never know. MODERATOR: hiccup133 is drinking water, holding breath, pinching nose, AND asking a question! :) MODMSG hiccup133: When did you become interested in acting? Michelle_T: When I was 3 years old, I used to sit in front of the television... Michelle_T: I STOOD in front of the television... Michelle_T: And said I wanted to be ON TV. My mom found out about a lady seeing kids in NY... Michelle_T: I went to see her and went to my first commercial audition...which was a Whisk detergent commercial... Michelle_T: And I got it. Things have been moving up ever since, and now I'm on "Buffy"!

at Nick Online... MODMSG NICKZa: Michelle, how did you like being on the Nick show, "SPACE CASES"? Michelle_T: That was really fun! Michelle_T: I got to team up with an old actor friend, Danny Tamborelli. Michelle_T: Working with him was very fun. And I got to have fun being an alien! Michelle_T: It was very cool. MODERATOR: This is a memorable question from starfish17 :) MODMSG starfish17: What was your best moment in any of the movies that you've been in? Michelle_T: Hi starfish! Michelle_T: My best moment...I think it's kind of a general thing..either getting the part to begin with... Michelle_T: Or finally understanding where my character is coming from. Once you're in touch with who you're playing... Michelle_T: You can truly play your character to the fullest and from then you have the best time! MODERATOR: dchick thinks you must have a super FUN life!! :) MODMSG dchick: How much fun was it to be in "Harriet The Spy" and, of course, "Inspector Gadget"? Michelle_T: It was very fun being Harriet because not only had I loved the book when I was younger, there weren't many roles out there for girls my age who are as courageous as Harriet. Michelle_T: So playing her was not only incredibly enjoyable but also very exciting. Michelle_T: And I love to read and write as well, so among other things we are very much alike. Michelle_T: In "Inspector Gadget" playing Penny was really cool! Michelle_T: I got to see how every type of machine worked on "Gadget." Michelle_T: I got to see things fly from one side of the soundstage to another...she was just a fun character! nickyapper: I love "Inspector Gadget"!!!!!! MODERATOR: buffyfan1 is on a first name basis with Sarah? :::giggling:::: MODMSG buffyfan1: Did knowing Sarah make it easier to start the show? Michelle_T: Knowing Sarah made it more comfortable for me to enter the show in its 5th season... Michelle_T: Because all of the characters on the show had time to get to know each other...and it was a bit nerve-wracking for me... Michelle_T: But Sarah was always there and she was very comforting. Michelle_T: Everyone immediately—cast and crew—accepted me into the "Buffy" family... Michelle_T: In a big ol' bear hug! MODERATOR: kidcash1 was a tiny bit scared to ask this question :) MODMSG kidcash1: DO YOU GET SCARED WHEN ON THE "BUFFY" SET? nickyapper: KEEP A CAP ON THE CAPS nickyapper: No need to shout, we can hear you just fine!!! Michelle_T: I get to see the actual actor coming in before they get
into their scary vampire/demon make-up... Michelle_T: But sometimes when I'm walking around the stage at night, you can get a good shriek from me! MODERATOR: Michelle we received a lot of questions in the mailbag this week at nick.com :) MODMSG NICKZa: Do you like your part in "Buffy"? Is there anything you would like to see Dawn do? Michelle_T: I love my part on "Buffy!" Michelle_T: I think Dawn is very interesting... Michelle_T: Besides being a typical teenager, she's got a little secret. Michelle_T: But she doesn't know about it, which makes her even more exciting to play. Michelle_T: And I have great confidence in Joss Whedon, the creator of the show, and his team of writers coming up with great fantastic storylines every week for me to have fun with... Michelle_T: So I'm sure whatever they think up will be much better than anything I would ever imagine Dawn doing! Michelle_T: But I do like to give them ideas sometimes. MODERATOR: cleo215 has the *ideal* question for you :) MODMSG cleo215: What would be the ideal show or movie that you would like to be in? Michelle_T: What's up, cleo! Michelle_T: Well, first of all, I think that I have met that dream...because what many people don't know is that I was a HUGE "Buffy" fan before I started on the show... Michelle_T: And I had always dreamt of just doing a little mini-guest spot...anything to just get behind the scenes. Michelle_T: And now that I'm a regular and Buffy's sister in addition, it's more than I could ever have imagined... Michelle_T: I was very very excited...still am!! Michelle_T: But as for dream roles in the movies, I would love to work with Jodie Foster, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman...any of the greats. MODERATOR: lispaulkid thinks you are soooo lucky!!! MODMSG lispaulkid: What is James Marsters like? I love him!!! Michelle_T: James is very cool! Michelle_T: He has a great sense of humor and he's fun to work with. Michelle_T: I think his hair's the coolest thing! Michelle_T: But I'm still trying to get used to it. Michelle_T: Because being under 18 I can only work a certain number of hours per day... Michelle_T: But in those hours I have school as well. So when I get home I do my homework as quickly as possible... Michelle_T: Which is sometimes hard, because sophomores in high xchool have a lot of work. Then I do my lines for the next day... Michelle_T: And then I go right to sleep! nickyapper: Hey there, Blabbers! Michelle_T: I don't really have a favorite holiday... Michelle_T: I think every holiday is very special and during this time I celebrate both Christmas and Hanukah. Michelle_T: And I just love the whole family getting together part of the holidays... Michelle_T: So any time I have an excuse to eat a lot and be with my family, I'll accept with a HUGE smile on my face! MODERATOR: I bet Halloween keeps you busy!!! nothsa LOVES Nickelodeon and is wondering... MODMSG nothsa: What's your favorite Nick show? Michelle_T: It always used to be "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" but now I'm partial to "Rugrats." Michelle_T: But every show on Nick is always good to watch! MODERATOR: supboy has our traditional Blab-a-torium question for you!! MODMSG supboy: What is your favoride food? Michelle_T: Ok, my favorite food—which some of you guys might think is pretty icky—is stuffed mushrooms... Michelle_T: Before you get that yucky feeling in your stomach...they are stuffed with cheddar cheese and bacon and spices that are really really yummy! MODMSG mandamoo62: I love stuffed mushrooms!!!!! Michelle_T: And besides, my Mommy makes them, which makes them even better! MODERATOR: wrathe is a scarey name :::shiver::: but not so scarey of a question :) MODMSG wrathe: WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE band? Michelle_T: That's a tough one, wrathe...I don't usually settle on one type of music. Michelle_T: I love anything that can make me dance. Michelle_T: Right now in my CD player I've got Destiny's Child, Samantha Mumba...I love the whole Latin beat from Enrique to Mark Anthony... Michelle_T: And Debelah Morgan. But I think Samantha Mumba has a huge future... Michelle_T: I did a photo shoot with her and not only was she talented, she was also very nice. MODERATOR: This question wasn't just in a letter, it was sooo long it came in a PACKAGE at nick.com! MODMSG NICKMare: How did Buffy find out you were her little sister and how did you become her sister? Did the dad have an affair or something? Was it a second wife? Michelle_T: You guys who have watched episode 5 would know that Dawn is a force of energy who is the key to the survival of mankind... Michelle_T: And these bad people are after her...if they find her, it means the end of the world! Michelle_T: Dawn is Buffy's new mission...she's only been alive six months, but to Dawn, for her entire life she's been Buffy's sister... Michelle_T: This is all that she knows so far, but... Michelle_T: Everyone around her knows the same thing because they've had their minds tweaked by the monks who created Dawn. Michelle_T: It's a mouthful I know! But I think it's pretty creative! MODMSG hagoddess: That's sooooo cool! MODERATOR: ::::biting my beak at the limited number of choices in this question::: coming from slayer1 :) MODMSG slayer101: Are you a cat person or a dog person? Michelle_T: I love all animals. Michelle_T: But I have to say that I have a cat. Michelle_T: Her name is Casey! She is 7 years old and she's the CUTEST thing! MODERATOR: ACK!! CATS!! Michelle_T: But I love anything that's furry and cuddly. nickyapper: Calm yourself, Birdie. Michelle_T: Not really...usually my friends just call me "Mich" for short... Michelle_T: But any inside joke we have might just turn into a nickname! Michelle_T: We're always having fun. MODERATOR: esteblover almost had trouble remembering what to ask!! MODMSG esteblover: Do you have trouble learning your lines sometimes? Michelle_T: Hello, esteblover! Michelle_T: I have actually been really lucky...I have a pretty photgraphic memory...and besides, the second that I get comfortable with playing my character, the lines almost come naturally. MODERATOR: drama gurl would LOVE some advice from the person who saves the world! :) MODMSG drama gurl: Hey:) what advice would you give to an actress just starting off??:) Michelle_T: Hey dramagurl...the most valuable advice I have to give is advice my Mom gave to me... Michelle_T: This applies to anyone in any profession because it's almost like a basic principle. Michelle_T: It's not hard to remember so don't worry! "Believe in Yourself"... Michelle_T: I cannot stress enough how important it is to have confidence in everything that you do! Michelle_T: If you believe that you can achieve anything you will! Michelle_T: But keep in mind that in acting there is a lot of hard work and determination involved. Michelle_T: Never lose hope and you will succeed! Michelle_T: That's an easy question: "Hush" Michelle_T: It was the scariest episode I've seen of "Buffy" yet...even with all the lights on, I was pretty scared! Michelle_T: Not only is she incredibly funny, she's a wonderful person with a heart of gold. Michelle_T: I have done school plays, which are always fun, k8ie444.... Michelle_T: You guys may not believe this, but I guarantee it's true... Michelle_T: On Sundays some of the cast get together, and we just like to read plays... Michelle_T: Just for fun, because we all have a love for the written word! Michelle_T: I would love to do Broadway one day because I want to experience every venue acting has to offer. Michelle_T: So maybe one day I'll be able to answer that question "yes"! But I do get recognized... Michelle_T: And it's very flattering. Michelle_T: I owe a great deal to my fans because they have given me much support through my 12 years in the biz.... Michelle_T: Whenever they stop me and tell me that they enjoy my work it's a wonderful feeling to know that I'm giving them entertainment. Michelle_T: Because I have been taught to believe in myself...I have always had confidence in what I am doing. Michelle_T: My favorite scene...I loved the scenes when Golly comes back and gives Harriet the last bit of advice... Michelle_T: I also loved filming in Canada...it's so peaceful up there... Michelle_T: And, again, working with Rosie was great... Michelle_T: Also the director, Bronwen Hughes, who was excited every day we came to work—that made us all happier to come to work every day. MODERATOR: gb1 would love to know what you do in your spare time :) MODMSG gb1: Do you have any hobbies? MODMSG harrietm81: I love chatting with you, Michelle, you are so cool! Michelle_T: Here goes the whole slew of hobbies, gb1: Michelle_T: I love to read, I love to write... Michelle_T: I actually love to make beaded jewelry...I love to paint, watch TV, hang out with my friends... Michelle_T: I love to shop...I especially love to buy anything from the new Harry Potter merchandise because I'm a huge Harry Potter fan... Michelle_T: Some of my favorite books are, of course, the "Harry Potter" series... Michelle_T: "Jane Eyre" and "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn." Michelle_T: I'm sure that the next time I talk to you guys my list of hobbies will have increased but also my list of favorite books. Can you even notice the difference between the two? Michelle_T: Thank you very much, er1c42 Michelle_T: There is a difference between the two, especially if you are working on a sitcom or a movie... Michelle_T: One hour shows are closer to what it's like to work on a movie...but I honestly love doing both. Michelle_T: Whatever it takes to be in front of the camera, I enjoy either one! nickyapper: Just 5 more minutes!!! MODERATOR: agibaill is so fond of the old shows!! Michelle_T: I always love to check up on what's up with everyone else. Michelle_T: It takes 8 days for us to shoot each episode... Michelle_T: Sometimes on a really intense episode we'll go a day over...but that's the average time.
