By the way, you rock and I love you! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: [Laughs] Thanks! You rock and I love you. We're stil trying to decide what the next song will be. I'm guessing it will be a song called "Crush." SPEAKER_NICKBird: finegurl88 has a genie type question for you. finegurl88: If you could ask for anything, what would it be? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: On a day like today, I would ask for some more sleep! stlfan: Would you ever want to be slimed? SPEAKER_NICKyapper: Of course! SPEAKER_NICKyapper: Who wouldn't? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Hmm...I would because I would like to find out what the slime is really made up of and what the consistency is. I know that's probably a weird reason. SPEAKER_NICKyapper: Slime is a naturally occurring substance. SPEAKER_NICKBird: cobrabunny would love to know about your beginnings... cobrabunny: Mandy, how did you start your career? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I did a lot of musical theater and sang the national anthem at local sports events and that's about it. I just did everything I could do to get more experience performing in front of an audience. SPEAKER_NICKBird: caterpilar wants to be a world traveler... caterpilar: What is your idea of a great getaway vacation? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: [Laughs] What an interesting question! It would be, since I'm definitely a Florida girl, some remote, beachfront place that I could sleep in and open my door right out onto the water. SPEAKER_NICKyapper: Sleep is a recurring theme... SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Nobody around me...no TVs or cell phones or computers...just to get away from everything. SPEAKER_NICKyapper: You should go visit SpongeBob! SPEAKER_NICKBird: tabugirl is so excited to be chatting with you! tabugirl: What do you like most about what you do, Mandy? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I get the opportunity to do what I love every single day of my life. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: On top of that, I get to travel to places I never thought I'd see and meet people from around the world. It doesn't really get any better than that! SPEAKER_NICKBird: We received a LOT of mail at nick.com this week from kids who couldn't make it to this chat...Here's the first one::::opening the soggy envelope:::: Nick Mail Bag: Do you sing in the shower? Do you sing your own songs or other people's? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Everybody sings in the shower! Of course I sing in the shower. I've been known to sing one of my songs, but only if I've been rehearsing or warming up for a performance. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I usually sing a song that I hear on the radio. SPEAKER_NICKBird: Here is a memorable one from MandyLMFan... MandyLMFan: Mandy, what was your most memorable celebrity encounter? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I would say it was this past weekend at the MTV movie awards. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I'm such a fan of so many people...and I'm starstruck by people that I like just like everybody else. I saw Gwen Stefani and her boyfriend Gavin. I went up to say Hello and of course made a total geek out of myself! [Laughs] SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I was just in awe and didn't know what to say! SPEAKER_NICKBird: IceMisty cannot believe this and is grinning real big! IceMisty: Do you like chatting with us? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I love chatting with you! SPEAKER_NICKyapper: Just what we LOVE to hear! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I'm an Internet junkie, and I love chatting with all my friends on the Internet too! SPEAKER_NICKBird: bunny42390 is wondering who influenced you... bunny42390: How did you become famous? Who helped you along the way? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I was actually discovered by a FedEx guy who heard me sing, took my demo and sent it off to one of his friends at a record label. SPEAKER_NICKyapper: That's a FedEx guy with gumption! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: It was totally random and I was VERY lucky. Just in the right place at the right time. He, along with many others, helped me along the way. SPEAKER_NICKBird: Tara Star has a great name, a great question and an open calendar! Tara Star: Are you going on tour soon? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Tara Star, I hope to go on tour either late this summer or early fall. SPEAKER_NICKBird: Here is another from the mailbag... Nick Mail Bag: I want to be a singer, but I am scared of singing in front of a lot of people. Any suggestions? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Don't pass up any good opportunities and perform in front of your friends and family as much as you can. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Maybe join the school choir, that way you won't feel as embarrassed when you have more people around you. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Whatever you do just keep singing and good luck! SPEAKER_NICKBird: beefyman typed this 4 times to not make a mistake! :::grinning::: beefyman: Hey, Mandy...have you ever made a mistake on stage? If so, what was the biggest one? MODERATOR_BirdatNick: Hey Mandy! We are here in Korea and we are your BIGGEST fans! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Beefyman, oh goodness—I make mistakes all the time on stage. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I think one of the biggest mistakes is when you forget the lyrics to one of your songs. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I think it happens because you're so concentrated on everything BUT the lyrics most of the time that it just slips your mind at the most inconvenient moment. SPEAKER_NICKBird: zierka97 teamed up to ask you this question... zierka97: If you could have a duet with any other star who would it be? I think your songs are so cool! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Zierka97, well thank you very much! I don't know any artist out there that, off the top of my head, I would love to do a duet with. I think when I do do a duet I'll probably choose an up-and-coming artist over somebody who's big right now. Besides, I don't think that anybody would want to do a duet with me! [Laughs] SPEAKER_NICKBird: uwishstar is wondering .. uwishstar: What is your favorite thing to do when you have time off from singing? SPEAKER_NICKyapper: The questions have been so great so far, so keep them coming! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Of course I'm a girl, so I love to shop! SPEAKER_NICKyapper: Well, so do I and I am a YAPPER! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: But I'm an Internet geek too, so I love to get on the Internet and talk to my friends. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Of course my favorite pastime, like most teenagers, is sleeping! It's all about the sleep today. I'm in one of those moods and anxious for the weekend! SPEAKER_NICKyapper: There's that SLEEP thing again... SPEAKER_NICKBird: Here's another question from the mailbag... Nick Mail Bag: Do you want to be a singer forever, or is there something else you want to do when you get older? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Singing is my passion. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: It's the priority in my life, but I think as you change and grow older you may find that you have interests in other things as well. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I definitely think I'll continue to act and hopefully write and produce more of my music. SPEAKER_NICKBird: blackcat75 is snoring, I mean asking, this one for you :) blackcat75: Do you live with your parents? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Of course! I'm still 17 so I still live with my family!!! SPEAKER_NICKBird: beautyhap has a beautiful question :) beautyhap: Do you write your songs, and if so do you write them out of experience? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Beautyhap, I co-wrote the first song on my album that is coming out in a couple weeks...and of course it's based on experience! MODERATOR_BirdatNick: I think you rock! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I definitely want to continue to write and produce more music and continue to draw from what I see and live. I think you rock! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I read a lot of my fanmail. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: But there's not always a huge amount of time to read everything, but I definitely read a majority and try to answer some back. I think that the thing that made the experience the best was definitely our director Matthew Rolston. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I definitely hope to go to college but it just may not be at the same time that my friends start to go. SPEAKER_NICKBird: brit871 is a big moviegoer... brit871: Do you ever want to be in movies? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Yes! I just finished "The Princess Diaries," which comes out in theaters in August. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I also just finished "A Walk to Remember," which hits theaters in January. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I definitely want to continue doing movies. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: [Laughs] I listen to a little bit of everything. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Right now I'm listening to a lot of music my parents used to listen to. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Fleetwood Mac, Boston and the Eagles. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I also love Missy Elliott, No Doubt, Weezer and Faith Hill. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: My true friends don't treat me any differently. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: But the saying is true. Once you get into this business, you find out who your true friends are and your circle of friends gets smaller. SPEAKER_NICKBird: amy2500 has a background question for you... amy2500: Mandy, I want to let you know that your music video"Candy" is the best, but I want to know if those people in the background your friends. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Amy2500, unfortunately, no. We became friends on set, but they were dancers that I had rehearsed with and met only the day before. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Angel1QT76, Thank you so much! I'm happy to talk to you, too! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: My favorite book is definitely "A Walk to Remember" by Nicholas Sparks. Ironically enough, I just finished the movie two weeks ago. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: But it was my favorite book before I knew anything about the movie. SPEAKER_NICKyapper: Well, that was lucky! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: You should definitely read the book—it's awesome! You'll cry though! SPEAKER_NICKBird: Silvian is excited about your new song! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I think "In My Pocket" is just a very agressive, colorful and energetic song about a girl who's very confident and kind of gets the vibe that a guy likes her. FoxEKitty: Is it fun hangin' with celebs, or do you like it better being with your friends? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I'd rather be with my friends. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: It's fun to meet people, but at the end of the day you wanto to chill with the people that you know love you for you and not necessarily for what you do. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I have three pets and I have a new puppy named Oliver! He's a teacup Yorkshire Terrier and I got him for my birthday. SPEAKER_NICKyapper: Now that is what I call PETS! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I'm always nervous before any performance. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I think it adds energy to the show, and if I'm not nervous I take it as a sign of being too overconfident—and you can always be better. SPEAKER_NICKBird: soccerstr is a big fan of yours! soccerstr: I'm so glad you're online tonight. I admire you so much! Who's your role model? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Well, thank you so much, soccerstr. Growing up, I always idolized Bette Midler because she did it all. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Movies, TV, Broadway and a recording career. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Nowadays I still look up to her, but I'd love to be a cross between Faith Hill and Gwen Stefani. SPEAKER_NICKBird: caterpilar loves tv! caterpilar: What TV channel do you watch the most? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Hmmm...since I'm a recording artist it's constantly, usually on MTV. But when I'm home the TV at home is usually on Nickelodeon or the Weather Channel. I have to fall asleep watching Nick At Night. I know that sounds cheesy—it's not a plug I promise! SPEAKER_NICKBird: roketgirlz is asking... roketgirlz: Do you have a favorite memory from your singing career? SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Roketgirlz, I would say the day that I was signed to a record label. That's probably the most memorable and best part. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I think hearing yourself on the radio and seeing people sing along with you are some of the most amazing things that you get out of the job. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: The first time I was on stage in front of an audience. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I knew that was a rush of adrenaline that could be felt doing nothing else. SPEAKER_NICKyapper: 10 minutes folks! Just 10 more minutes with Mandy! SPEAKER_NICKBird: dancer1012 loves to hear about other places... dancer1012: What's the best place you've visited on tour? SPEAKER_NICKyapper: Make these last questions good ones! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: It's amazing to travel to different countries, but I will take any concert with an exciting audience! SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: Princess16, I did when I was younger. I did a lot of tap, jazz and ballet. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: But not anymore. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: I've never cried in front of anybody. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: But I'm the #1 most sensitive person in the world, and can and WILL cry at the drop of a hat. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: It is awkward however, when someone comes to you crying because you just don't know what to say. SPEAKER_Mandy Moore: My family always comes on the road with me, so I spend plenty of time with them.
