6 year old Kila, of the Southern Water Tribe, threw a snow ball at Tako, her best friend. They both laughed when the ball hit Tako square in the face. Tako was the son of the Southen Water Tribe Leader, Sonta, who watched the two children's careless banter with enjoyment. Suddenly, black flakes began to fall from the sky. Sonta studied it carefully, unsure of its source. Someone pointed as a huge, black ship appreared through the fog. Sonta's eyes widened at the fire nation flag waving from the ship. It had been 10 years since rumor had reached the Southern Water Tribe that the Fire Nation had declared war on all the other nations. It had seemed so sudden and unbelievable, that no one had payed much heed to the rumor.
