Hello, Danny Phantom fans! I'm finally back from my break (okay, so maybe I wasn't completely off the message boards. I've been reading some of the fan fictions that are up, and I must say that you guys are doing really good! I just couldn't stay away!) I thought to celebrate my return, I'm going to repost "The Life of Saralyn"! Enjoy!
CHAPTER 1: THE BEGINNING (part 1)
I sighed in disappointment as my sister, Carmen, and I looked up at a house across the street from where we stood. The house of my aunt Rebecca and uncle Carl. I loved my aunt and uncle, but they had a bit of an obsession. What's the obsession, you may ask? Two words: ghost hunting. Uncle Carl is ABSOLUTELY obsessed with ghosts. Aunt Rebecca used to be sort of neutral, but uncle Carl's obsession must've rubbed off on her. I groaned.
"Can't we stay at one of your friend?s house? Mom and dad will never know!" I persuaded Carmen.
"No way," Carmen said. "I know that you think that Aunt Becca and Uncle Carl are weird..."
"BUT THEY ARE!" I cried. "YOU THINK THAT TOO!"
"Calm down!" Carmen said, "I know that also, but mom and dad said that staying with our aunt and uncle will help us..." Then Carmen started air quoting. " 'bond' or 'find things in common' or 'get along with each other' or something." I groaned even more and returned my focus on the house.
Oh, sorry, I'm getting a little carried away with my complaining. Hi, my name is Saralyn, but my friends call me Sara. The only people that call me Saralyn are teachers and my parents when they're angry. I live in a town called Amity Park, and so do my aunt and uncle. The reason Carmen and I were staying at our aunt and uncle's house was because our parents are going on a cruise ship through the Bahamas. Carmen and I BEGGED them to take us with them, but they insisted we stay here.
Carmen and I looked at each other nervously. We slowly started walking across the street. All of a sudden, a boy zoomed down the streets, crashing into me. I hit the ground hard on my side.
"Oh! I'm so sorry!" the boy said, helping me up.
"It's alright." I said. ?Just some internal bleeding, that?s all.?
The boy smiled. "I haven't seen you around before." He said. "I'm Danny Fenton."
"I'm Saralyn. You can call me Sara. This is my sister, Carmen." I said. "I've heard of your parents. Aren't they ghost hunters?" Danny nodded.
"So are our aunt and uncle." Carmen said.
"Cool." Danny said.
"DANNY!" a voice cried. We turned around. Two people, a Goth girl and a techno boy geek were running towards us.
"What is it, guys?" Danny asked.
"There's a g---!" the Goth girl said. She saw me and Carmen and stopped.
"Uhhh..." the geek said. He then whispered something in Danny's ear.
(What's at the park?) I thought.
Danny's eyes widened. "I got to go." he said, turning to me, "Nice meeting you. Come on, Tucker... Tucker?"
But Tucker wasn't paying attention to Danny. He was paying more attention to me.
"Hey, there. I'm Tucker Foley. That's T.F. as in too fine!" he said.
"Uhhh...?" I said. Then the girl came up and grabbed Tucker's ear.
"OW! OW! OW!" Tucker said. Then they ran off, with Tucker yelling to me. "CALL ME!" he cried.
I watched them until they were out of sight, Carmen and I bursting in laughter. We knocked on the door. Uncle Carl opened the door. He was a tall, rather chunky man with blonde hair and brown eyes that were always crinkled into a smile. He wore a checkered t-shirt and trousers.
"Carmen! Sara!" uncle Carl cried, giving both of us a big hug.
"Hi, uncle Carl." Carmen said. "Going golfing again?"
Uncle Carl nodded and smiled. "Auntie Becca is in the kitchen, making dinner." he said. "Go upstairs, 2nd and 3rd door on the left are your rooms." Carmen and I nodded and raced upstairs.
"Hey, that Danny guy is kind of cute, huh?" she said, hinting me.
?Geez, Carmen, get real.? I said. I let out a chuckle to myself as I began unpacking.
"So, what's been going on with Danny?" I asked Sam.
"He's been really upset since Saralyn moved." Sam said.
"Yes! Where were you in the last chapter?!"
She's right. Where was I?
"So, he's pretty bummed?"
"Yeah." Sam said. "It's like everything has changed since he found out that Sara loves him."
"Sara loves Danny??"
"YES! Where we--- Oh, yeah. We didn't know you when that happened."
"Why doesn't anyone tell me these things?"
"Do you happen to know where Sara moved to?" Sam asked me.
I thought about it, then rummaged through my coat pocket. I pulled out a yellow crumpled piece of paper.
"Maybe this will give us a hint." I said. "I found this tumbling in the wind."
When I handed her the paper, our hands touched for a split second. It felt like lightning.
(Whoa. What just happened?!) I thought.
(That was weird...) Sam thought.
Sam uncrumpled the piece of paper.
"It's a flier for a dance." Sam said. "All the way from Lincoln High."
"Lincoln High?" I said. "That sounds familiar."
I closed my eyes and thought.
An image of the school appeared in my head. I saw a girl hanging out with two other people. The girl had brown hair and lavendar eyes.
My eyes snapped open.
"That's where Sara's going to school!" I exclaimed. "She goes to Lincoln High!"
"Where's that?" Sam asked.
"I think it's at Timberwoods."
"Timberwoods? Isn't that where she lived before she moved here?"
"Maybe, I don't know."
Sam looked like she was going to pass out from excitement.
"We have to tell Danny." Sam said. "He needs to know."
I nodded as we took off.
(Man, what is wrong with me?! I've just been a depressed mess this week! Heh, that rhymes...)
I laid flat on my bed, staring at the ceiling.
(Maybe I should go for a walk.)
After 10 minutes of staring at the ceiling, I finally got up and opened the window. I shivered.
(How did it get so cold??)
I slid on my jacket as I made my way downstairs.
"I'm going out." I called.
I opened the door and was hit by a chilling wind. I zipped up my jacket and left.
(How could it be so cold? It's the middle of April!)
I shivered and shoved my hands into my pockets. I felt something in my left pocket. I pulled it out, revealing a white envelope. It read "To Danny".
"What's this?" I said to myself.
I opened it. It was a letter:
I'm sorry that I didn't tell you I was moving. I feel really bad about it. I also apologize for getting mad at you at school. I just felt really hurt. But I'm okay now.
I know that Sam probably told you my feelings for you. I knew this would happen. I know that Sam also told you about my new powers.
I wonder when you'll get this. I hope soon. I want you to know that I care about you a lot, Danny. I don't want what we have to be destroyed by the distance. I want to be with you, whether or not you feel the same way.
Tell the others that I said hi.
I love you,
"Danny, I've been hearing your stomach growling for 15 minutes." Sam said, poking her salad around. "You have to eat SOMETHING."
"Yeah, dude." Tucker said, shaking his head. "You've been WAY hung over this Sara issue."
"Well, maybe I have a right to be obsessed with this!" I snapped back. "And I might be able to get over it if you guys were more supportive!"
"We would if---"
Just then, my ghost sense went off.
"Hold that thought." I huffed.
I ducked under the table, went ghost, and flew outside.
"BEWAAAAARE!" the Box Ghost said.
"Really?" I said shaking my head.
I took out my thermos and suck the Box Ghost in.
"Oh, COME ON!" Box Ghost cried from the thermos.
"Next time, just show up in the thermos. That would save me a LOT more time." I said.
"Well, it sure bought me some time." a dark voice chuckled behind me.
I whirled around.
"You again?" I said.
"Yes, it is me." Skulker said.
"Look here, Skulker." I said. "I've had a really stressed week, and you being here is NOT helping me!"
I summoned a giant ecto ball and shot it at Skulker. I grabbed my thermos while he was confused and sucked Skulker into it.
"DOES ANY OTHER GHOST WANT TO TRY AND MESS WITH ME?!" I yelled.
After 5 seconds of silence, I changed back into my human form and went back into the Nasty Burger.
"Was there a ghost?" Tucker asked.
"Yeah, nothing really important." I said, sitting back down and crossing my arms.
"RUDY!" I cried into my intercom. "My office, NOW!"
Moments later, Rudy stepped into the room.
"What is it, master?" he said annoyed.
"Have you heard?" I asked him. "About the ghost brats?"
"No," Rudy said. "what about them?"
"They've separated." I said with a smirk. "It appears that Saralyn has moved away, leaving Daniel completely vulnerable."
Rudy seemed to perk up.
"Really?" Rudy said. "Interesting. Should we now try to capture them?"
"Indeed." I nodded.
"Which one should we start with?"
"Ah, ah, ah..." I said. "Not yet."
"When, then??" Rudy snapped in frustration.
"Soon." I said, looking out the window to the city. "Very soon."
My friends decided since it was my first day back, we went to the park to have a picnic.
"So, how was your first day back?" Flynn asked.
"It was alright." I said.
That was a total lie. I absolutely DESPISED my first day back at the school. It wasn't the same without Sam, Tucker, and Danny...
(Whoa, there, girl.) I thought, stopping myself. (There's nothing to be worried about. I have I old life back. I should be happy about it... right?)
"Man, did you see Reggie get hit in the face with a dodgeball by Donald?" Skyler said, snickering at the thought.
I couldn't help but laugh at THAT. Donald was like the Dash of Lincoln High, and Reggie is the school nerd.
"So, what was your favorite thing about living in Amity Park?" Flynn asked.
(Oh, man... This is going to be hard.) I thought.
"Um..." I said hesitantly. "Well, the people there were very nice."
"Did you meet anyone... you know...?" Skyler said, nudging me.
"What?!" I cried. "O-of course not..."
"Okay, okay. It was just a question."
I sighed in relief.
"Saralyn! Time to get up! First day at your old school!" my mom called from downstairs.
I slowly rolled out from under my covers and sat on my bed for a while, recollecting the recent news. I looked around at my new room, still not used to it. Then, I shook my head and got up. I got dressed into jean shorts, my converse, and a bright yellow t-shirt. I took one look at myself in the mirror and sighed. Then, I grabbed my bag and climbed downstairs.
"Good morning, sweetie." mom chirped as she put a plate of pancakes in front of me. "Did you sleep well?"
"Kind of..." I said. "I'm still getting used to this house, and you know... being here."
"Oh, honey." mom said, putting a hand on my shoulder. "Everything will be alright. I mean, you're going back to your old school. You get to see your friends again."
"I liked Casper High better." I mumbled quietly as I ate my pancakes.
I gasped when I looked at the clock.
"I'm gonna be late!" I cried as I scarfed down my pancakes and milk. "Bye, mom!"
I rushed out the door.
It felt so strange going back to my old school. Some people that caught glance of me were shocked to see me again. All of a sudden, I heard a high-pitched scream behind me. I whirled around and running towards me was Skyler, my best friend.
"Lynnie!!!" she cried.
Skyler ran towards me and almost maimed me in her hug.
"I can't believe you're back!" she cried as she let go.
"Neither can I." I said, smiling.
I've always thought that someday Skyler would become a supermodel or something like that. She's got pretty black hair that is almost always straight. She has dazzling gray eyes and she has almost perfect features and other things.
"So, what are you doing back here?" Skyler asked.
"Well, my parents came back from their vacation and decided to move." I said.
Skyler nodded, as if she completely understood.
"Hey, are you girls forgetting about me?" a male voice said behind me.
I turned around and I saw my other best friend, Flynn.
"Flynn!" I cried, giving him a hug. "Man, am I glad to be back..."
"Really?" Skyler questioned. "Didn't you like attending your other school for a while?"
"Do you want me to go back?" I teased.
Skyler rolled her eyes. The first class bell rang and I felt my stomach drop. I took a deep breath to prevent myself from dry heaving and stepped into the hallways.
You probably have no clue who I am. We chatted a bit a long time ago. Anyway, thank you so much for reposting this! The Life of Saralyn is one of my favorite fanfics and I was sad to see it had been deleted from inactivity. But now I can reread it!
I've never felt so shocked in my life. I was so shocked, not even getting hit by LIGHTNING could be this shocking.
"So, she left without saying goodbye?" I asked.
Sam nodded. I could've sworn her eyes were getting watery. I let out a big sigh and stared at the ground.
"I'm sorry I got mad at you." I said. "I guess I was just a little upset."
"It's okay." Sam nodded. "Besides. Maybe Sara'll come and visit soon."
I know Sam was trying to cheer me up, but I felt all my happiness and energy just drain from my body. I yawned.
"I'd better get going." I said.
"See you tomorrow?" Sam said.
I nodded and walked away, too tired to even fly home. When I got home, I walked straight into the kitchen and sat down at the table. Jazz was sitting there, studying her math book. She looked up and saw me in despair, so she put her book down.
"Are you okay, Danny?" she asked.
"Yeah. I'm fine..." I said.
"Are you sure? You don't look like it."
"Anything you need to talk about?"
"I said I'm fine, Jazz!"
Jazz jumped back at my response. I took a deep breath.
"Sorry. It's just that... I'm kind of stressing out right now..."
"I understand, Danny." Jazz said, putting her hand on my shoulder. "Just remember, if you need anything, I'm here for you, little bro."
She gave me a smile, took her book in her hands, and left the room. I then stood up and walked into the lab. When I was sure the coast was clear, I took a deep breath...
And let out a big scream.
"Uh... Sam?" Sara mumbled. "There's something that I need to tell you."
"Sure. What is it?" I asked.
"Actually, can we go somewhere more private? Like that hill? I don't want anyone else knowing..."
10 minutes later, we were sitting at the hill.
"So, what do you need to tell me?" I said.
"Well, it's two things." Sara said. "The first thing is that I recently discovered a new ghost power. A sort of... bad one."
"What is it?"
"I can see the future."
"Really?! That's so cool!" I cried. "How is that bad?"
Saralyn looked at me as if I was totally clueless.
"Hello?! Sam! I can see the FUTURE! Who knows what HORRIBLE and DANGEROUS things that I could accidently see?!"
I thought about it, then a shudder when down my spine.
"Sorry." I murmured. "So, what was the other thing?"
"I...I'm moving..." Sara whispered.
There was an awkward silence before I realized what she just said.
"WHAT?!" I yelled. "What do you mean you?re MOVING?!"
Saralyn reached into her pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. It read:
Hi, honey. Did you miss us? 'Cause we sure missed you and Carmen. Anyways, our vacation has been cut short and we will be coming home very soon. Also, and this might be kind of hard for you, but we are moving back to our house as soon as we pick you up. We're very sorry that this is last minute, but I hope that you and your sister will accept it soon. We love you.
Love, Mom and Dad.
"Wow..." I said. "So, you're leaving us?"
"Blame my parents." Sara said, picking up a handful of grass and watching it blow away in the wind.
"Have you told anyone else?"
"You're the first and only one that knows."
"Only? So, you?re not going to tell Danny?"
Saralyn's eyes glowed when she heard his name.
"Why should I tell Danny??" she said, her voice growing up a notch. "I doubt he even cares!"
"Sara, you know that's not true!"
"Well, what if it is, huh?" Sara snapped. "What if everything that I ever wanted to happen while being here... was never meant to be?"
I was kind of shocked by her words.
"Also..." Saralyn said. "I had a vision."
"What was it about?" I asked.
"It was of Danny finding out about me moving, and his reaction. He looked so... angered."
"See?" I said, a wave of relief washing over me. "He does care."
Saralyn shook her head, and then stood up.
"I'd better go." she said. "My parents might arrive soon. I wouldn't want them leaving without me."
Saralyn quickly changed into her ghost form and began to fly away.
"Wait, Sara!" I cried.
But she was already gone.
"Danny!" I said, startled by his presence. "What are you doing here?"
"You know why I'm here." Danny snapped, crossing his arms. "Why didn't you tell me before about Sara moving?"
"Well... it was a secret." I murmured, staring at the ground.
"Well, it's not that much of a secret anymore!"
"Listen, Danny, I have a, uh... family emergency. I'll just---" I said, closing the door.
But Danny put his foot in front of the door, preventing me from closing it.
"I don't care if your second cousin's uncle twice-removed had a heart attack!" Danny said. "You better tell me everything."
I let out a huge sigh and fully opened the door, but Danny was already in the living room before I could even invite him in. Glad to know he wasn't a vampire or anything...
When I walked into the living room, he was standing in the middle, frozen like a statue with his eyes fixed on me.
"Now, spill it." he said. "Why did Sara tell you she was moving, but not tell me?"
"Because... she told me she knew what would happen." I said.
"What? What would happen?"
"Well, uhm... exactly this."
"How is it that she 'knew' what would happen?" Danny asked. "It's not like she can see the future or..."
"Well, actually, she can."
Danny looked flabbergasted.
"How come I don't get any super cool powers?!" Danny cried. "That's not fair."
"Danny, that's not the point."
Danny shook his head.
"You're right. Sorry." he said. "Go on..."
I rushed to Saralyn's house as quickly as I could. When it was in view, I suddenly stopped.
(Wait, what am I gonna say?! I can't just go up to her and say I love her. That'd be weird.)
I pondered about what I would say, so hopefully I wouldn't end up saying something that was unbelievably wrong. I then took a deep breath and knocked on the door. I heard the sound of footsteps, and Saralyn's aunt opened the door.
"Oh, hello." the woman said. "You must be Danny. I'm Rebecca."
"Hello." I nodded. "Uhm... is Saralyn here? I really need to tell her something."
Rebecca got a concerned look in her eyes.
"Uhh... is something wrong?" I asked. "Is she not here? 'Cause I can come back later."
"I'm sorry, Danny. But Saralyn moved."
I felt like Dash scrunched me into a locker.
"W...what?!" I cried.
I staggered backwards and nearly fell down the steps.
"Oh, dear!" Rebecca cried, trying to keep me balanced. "Are you alright? Do you need to sit down?"
"N...no..." I gasped. "I'm sorry. I need to leave."
I ran away, almost tripping over everything that came in my path. When I reached my house, I ripped open my bedroom door and turned on my computer.
(Please be on, please be on, PLEASE BE ON!) I cried inside my head.
I checked who was online.
(YES! They are on!)
I clicked on the chat button next to Tucker's and Sam's usernames. It only took a few seconds for them to both respond.
"Hey, Danny." Sam said. "What's---"
"Guys! You'll never believe what just happened!"
"What? What happened?" Tucker asked.
"M... what?" Sam questioned.
"She, WHAT?!" Tucker cried.
"Uh, I just said it! Saralyn moved!"
"When did she move?"
"Today." Sam said.
We both stared at her.
"How did you know that?" I asked.
"Because... she told me about her move this morning..."
"WHAT?!" I almost lost my voice from shouting so loudly. "Excuse me."
I slammed my computer off and jumped out my window, transforming into my ghost form. I flew so fast, I felt like I was going back in time. When I reached Sam's house, I turned human and pounded on her door.
"Coming!" a muffled voice said.
The door opened, and it was Sam, who looked startled at my presence.
"Spill it, sister." I growled.
I was all packed up. So was Carmen. We waited patiently on the couch in the living room. One agonizing hour went by until finally, we heard the HONK! of a car. I looked at Carmen, then we bolted to the door and yanked it open. There, standing by a small maroon car, was my mom and dad. They stood with wide smiles and glistening eyes.
"Mom!" I cried.
"Dad!" Carmen cried.
If you saw Carmen and my mother together with their backs towards you, it would be almost impossible to tell which is which. They both have naturally wavy caramel hair and deep green eyes. I look more like my dad. I have his deep lavender eyes and brown hair. In fact, I think it's cool that I look more like my dad.
"So, are you guys ready to move?" Mom asked, squeezing me tightly.
"Yeah!" Carmen cried.
We packed our things in the trunk, and piled in the car. I looked back at the house. Our aunt and uncle were at the door, waving. I turned my head and saw the Fenton house. I could feel tears flooding into my eyes.
"Sara, are you okay?" Carmen asked.
Then, I froze. I quickly opened the car door and pulled open the trunk. I searched through my suitcase pockets and pulled out an envelope. I pulled out a pen and wrote on it as quickly and neatly as I could.
"I'll be right back." I said.
I closed the trunk and ran into the Fenton's house. I jumped over their fence and transformed into my ghost half. I looked up at the three-story building and flew up, up, up, until I reached Danny's window. He wasn't there. I quietly opened the window and snuck in. I scanned the area and my eyes spotted Danny's jacket. I slid the envelope into one of the pockets and stood back. I looked at his room one last time, and jumped out the window.
I transformed back to my human half as I came back to the car. I slowly slid in and closed the door.
"Okay, ready?" Dad asked.
I took a deep breath and said, "Yes."
The car began to move forward.
I looked back at the Fentons' house and I felt a single tear fall down my cheek.
My mouth said yes, but my heart said no.
Sara: Hey, guys! It's Halloween!
