Blasting Jelly Blues
The Aftermath
Chapter Two
Pipsqueak and The Duke laughed heartily at someone's joke. They were both quite happy in the rowdy tavern. The Duke greedily ate some sweets while Pipsqueak ordered a large mug of something to drink.
"HEY YOU!" A deep voice called. Pipsqueak turned around. "WHAT?" He asked. "YOU WANNA ARM WRESTLE?" A slightly shorter man shouted. "WELL ALRIGHT!" Pipsqueak sat down at a table.
"C'mon Pipsqueak! You can beat him!" The Duke said. The men's muscles bulged as they strained against each other. "C'mon c'mon!" The Duke chanted. "YEAH!" He cheered when Pipsqeak won.
"I WASN'T READY!" The other guy complained. Pipsqueak ignored him. He was cheering for himself. The other guy finally stopped pestering Pipsqueak and went to a corner to sulk.
"Care for another game?" A tall woman walked up to them. "Scary lady." The Duke whispered, his eyes big. "Pretty lady." Pipsqueak said, his eyes big.
"So how about it tough guy? We gonna arm wrestle?" The woman smirked. "Sure!" Pipsqueak sat down at the table again. The Duke noticed a lot of people grinning nastily at them.
"Pipsqueak, I don't know if this is a good idea..." The Duke said. "I know what I'm doing!" Pipsqueak replied. Pipsqueak and the woman grasped hands. "Wait," the woman lowered her hand.
"How about we make this a little more interesting?" She put a sack of gold on the table. "Who ever wins gets this." She said. "Okay!" Pipsqueak nodded. "But, I already have the sack of gold. What do you have to offer?"
The woman asked. She put the tips of her fingers together and looked at Pipsqueak over the top of them. "Uhh...." Pipsqueak fished around in his pocket.
He pulled out a bracelet and set it on the table. "I have that." He pointed to it. "May I?" The woman asked. Pipsqueak nodded. She picked it up and looked at it carefully.
"Yes I think this will do." She nodded. The Duke jumped up and saw the bracelet. "Pipsqueak you can't!" The Duke cried when he saw the bracelet.
"It's okay The Duke, I won't lose!" Pipsqueak assured him. "But it's not yours to-" The woman cut The Duko off. "Are we going to arm wrestle or not?" She asked.
"You bet we are!" Pipsqueak nodded. The grasped hands again. The Duke watched silently. Pipsqueak's face began to get red with effort. His arm was starting to shake.
A few moments later a resounding smack echoed through the room. Pipsqueak couldn't believe it. The woman had beat him! "Drinks on me!" She yelled. "Cheer up big fella." She patted his shoulder as she walked by.
"How could you?" The Duke said. "I am sorry The Duke." Pipsqueak's shoulders drooped. The Duke turned to where the woman was admiring the way the bracelet looked on her wrist.
"I'm leaving." The Duke slunk out of the tavern. "Wait for me!" Pipsqeak followed after him. The Duke sniffled slightly as they walked down the side of the road. "It wasn't yours to bet." The Duke finally said something.
"I know." Pipsqueak sighed. "I gave that to you to keep safe. I didn't want to lose it." The Duke wiped his eyes. "I know." Pipsqueaked shoulders drooped more.
"That was my sister's bracelet!" The Duke wailed. "I am sorry." Pipsqueak replied. "SORRY DOESN'T GET IT BACK!" The Duke shouted. Pipsqueak said nothing. They continued walking down the side of the road in silence.
Pipsqueak and The Duke were gone.
