Blasting Jelly Blues
[A One-Shot]

What if Toph had been with the Gaang when they met the freedom fighters? What would have been different?
.............................................._._............................................

Longshot lit the end of the arrow and waited for the signal. He was startled when he heard a voice behind him. "Why would you do that?" She asked. Longshot lowered his bow and turned to her. "To kill all those inoccent people just to get rid of a few soilders? Is it really worth it?" She leaned against the trunk of the tree. Longshot

looked down at his feet from where he stood on the branch. "Why don't you speak? Is it because you can't or you choose not to?" Toph asked. Longshot didn't reply. "It's because you choose not to I exspect." Toph idly twirled a stick inbetween her fingers. "You seem very wise. I wouldn't think that you would do something like this. But

it's because of Jet isn't it? You trust him because he helped you when no one would. You felt helpless. You still feel helpless." Toph continued to mess with the stick. "Now don't get mad." Toph said when his heart rate started to

beat faster. "I know how you felt. I used to feel helpless." Toph sighed and threw the stick to the side. It fell to the forest floor. "That was before I could earthbend. Before I could see." She twiddled her thumbs. "I know your confused now. Cause you don't know." Toph lifted her

bangs to show her milky eyes. "I'm blind as a wolfbat." She felt Longshot's heart speed up again in surprise. "Didn't realize did you?" She smirked. "I learned earthbending from badger moles. They helped me see. I see from vibrations." Toph stood up. "But just because they taught

me and helped me doesn't mean I would listen to them all the time. I made my own choices. Made them really mad but thats irrelevant. Really, don't anger a badgermole." Toph chuckled. "Make your own choices. You don't have

to listen to Jet just cause your friends. It's corny, but listen to your heart." Toph stood up and brushed herself off. Right then a whistle sounded through the forest. "I'm not going to stop you if you decide to shoot that arrow, I'm

just telling you to think first." Toph jumped off the tree limb onto a rock piller she made. She vanished from sight. Longshot aimed again for the blasting jelly. But stopped and lowered his bow. He really didn't want to be a murderer. He was glad to have talked to Toph. Er...Listened.

Blasting Jelly Blues

The Aftermath

Chapter Three

Sneers loved not being a Freedom Fighter. He didn't have to do what Jet said, he didn't have to wake up early to hunt, he didn't have to do anything he didn't want to do.

And he had a girlfriend now! Sneers smiled as he thought of Song. She was so sweet and pretty. And she was good at "fixing hurty stuff" as Sneers called it.

And her mom made the best dumplings. Sneers smiled even bigger at the thought of dumplings. Sneers sat up as he heard the door to Song and her mother's bedroom door open.

Someone started walking around the kitchen fixing breakfast. He cracked his door and peeked out. He saw it was Song. 'Perfect.' He grinned. He walked into the kitchen and sat down at the table.

"Good Morning Sneers!" She said brightly, stumbling slightly over his name. She still confused by his name. She kept asking him what his real one was. He always refused to tell her though.

That was mostly because he'd forgotten what his real name was. But also, saying his real name aloud meant reliving his past. Reliving the pain.

"So I was uh, wondering if maybe you'd like to go for a walk or something later?" Sneers asked. "Sure. Sounds nice." Song nodded. She didn't really seem to be listening. Sneers shrugged.

He didn't really care. "When is breakfast going to be ready?" Sneers asked. "Just a few minutes." Song replied. "Good. I'm hungry!" Sneers patted his belly. "You always are." Song chuckled.

She set a bowl of porridge in front of him. "Thanks!" He started slurping it up. Song's mother padded into the room and sat at the table.

"Thank you so much dear for fixing breakfast this morning. I enjoyed the extra sleep so much." Song's mother said. "It was nothing." Song smiled. "How are you today Sneers?" Song's mother asked.

"I am great!" He replied with his mouth full. He didn't notice the older woman's grimace. "That's wonderful. Maybe you'd like a napkin?" She offered. "I'm fine!" Sneers continued eating.

Song's mother sighed. "This reminds me of when Mushi and his nephew stayed here." She said offhandedly. Song made a noise similar to laughter, but not quite as joyful.

Her mother patted her hand knowningly. "So how was your evening with Hideo?" She asked. "It was very enjoyable." Song blushed. Sneers narrowed his eyes. Just who was Hideo?

And why was he making his girlfriend blush. "Who's Hideo?" Sneers asked. "Song's romantic intrest." Song's mother said proudly. "Mother!" Song blushed deeper.

"Not everyone has to know!" Song hid her face behind her hand. Sneers frowned. So maybe Song being his girlfriend was all in his head.....

Blasting Jelly Blues

The Aftermath

Chapter Two

Pipsqueak and The Duke laughed heartily at someone's joke. They were both quite happy in the rowdy tavern. The Duke greedily ate some sweets while Pipsqueak ordered a large mug of something to drink.

"HEY YOU!" A deep voice called. Pipsqueak turned around. "WHAT?" He asked. "YOU WANNA ARM WRESTLE?" A slightly shorter man shouted. "WELL ALRIGHT!" Pipsqueak sat down at a table.

"C'mon Pipsqueak! You can beat him!" The Duke said. The men's muscles bulged as they strained against each other. "C'mon c'mon!" The Duke chanted. "YEAH!" He cheered when Pipsqeak won.

"I WASN'T READY!" The other guy complained. Pipsqueak ignored him. He was cheering for himself. The other guy finally stopped pestering Pipsqueak and went to a corner to sulk.

"Care for another game?" A tall woman walked up to them. "Scary lady." The Duke whispered, his eyes big. "Pretty lady." Pipsqueak said, his eyes big.

"So how about it tough guy? We gonna arm wrestle?" The woman smirked. "Sure!" Pipsqueak sat down at the table again. The Duke noticed a lot of people grinning nastily at them.

"Pipsqueak, I don't know if this is a good idea..." The Duke said. "I know what I'm doing!" Pipsqueak replied. Pipsqueak and the woman grasped hands. "Wait," the woman lowered her hand.

"How about we make this a little more interesting?" She put a sack of gold on the table. "Who ever wins gets this." She said. "Okay!" Pipsqueak nodded. "But, I already have the sack of gold. What do you have to offer?"

The woman asked. She put the tips of her fingers together and looked at Pipsqueak over the top of them. "Uhh...." Pipsqueak fished around in his pocket.

He pulled out a bracelet and set it on the table. "I have that." He pointed to it. "May I?" The woman asked. Pipsqueak nodded. She picked it up and looked at it carefully.

"Yes I think this will do." She nodded. The Duke jumped up and saw the bracelet. "Pipsqueak you can't!" The Duke cried when he saw the bracelet.

"It's okay The Duke, I won't lose!" Pipsqueak assured him. "But it's not yours to-" The woman cut The Duko off. "Are we going to arm wrestle or not?" She asked.

"You bet we are!" Pipsqueak nodded. The grasped hands again. The Duke watched silently. Pipsqueak's face began to get red with effort. His arm was starting to shake.

A few moments later a resounding smack echoed through the room. Pipsqueak couldn't believe it. The woman had beat him! "Drinks on me!" She yelled. "Cheer up big fella." She patted his shoulder as she walked by.

"How could you?" The Duke said. "I am sorry The Duke." Pipsqueak's shoulders drooped. The Duke turned to where the woman was admiring the way the bracelet looked on her wrist.

"I'm leaving." The Duke slunk out of the tavern. "Wait for me!" Pipsqeak followed after him. The Duke sniffled slightly as they walked down the side of the road. "It wasn't yours to bet." The Duke finally said something.

"I know." Pipsqueak sighed. "I gave that to you to keep safe. I didn't want to lose it." The Duke wiped his eyes. "I know." Pipsqueaked shoulders drooped more.

"That was my sister's bracelet!" The Duke wailed. "I am sorry." Pipsqueak replied. "SORRY DOESN'T GET IT BACK!" The Duke shouted. Pipsqueak said nothing. They continued walking down the side of the road in silence.

Pipsqueak and The Duke were gone.

Blasting Jelly Blues

The Aftermath

Chapter One

Smellerbee stirred the soup and added a few herbs. Then she sat back and looked around. Things had been quiet since they left the Freedom Fighters.

Smellerbee didn't mind though. She relished the peace. Longshot walked up and dropped an armful of wood a few feet away from the fire. He sat down cross legged next to her.

"I guess we should pitch the tent." Smellerbee glanced back at the mishapen lump that was the tent. Longshot shrugged. "Lazy." She said. Longshot smiled slightly.

"So where are we headed?" Smellerbee asked. "Where ever the wind takes us." Longshot replied silently. He gestured at the sky.

Smellerbee smiled. She liked that answer. "Soup's done." she slopped some into bowls for both of them. She handed him a bowl and they ate in silence.

Smellerbee cleaned the dishes and pot they had used when they were done. Usaully Longshot helped her, but he didn't tonight.

Smellerbee didn't really mind. She wondered what he was thinking so hard about. "A copper piece for your thoughts?" She asked. He rolled his eyes at the old saying.

"Really though, what's bothering you?" Smellerbee asked. "Nothing is bothering me. I'm just thinking." Longshot tilted his head up at the sky. Smellerbee followed his gaze.

"You always did like looking at the stars." Smellerbee commented. "See any constellations?" She asked. He pointed out a few. She nodded put she couldn't really see what they were suposed to be.

Longshot chuckled and shook his head. Smellerbee stuck her tounge out at him. "We should probably put the tent up before it gets to late." Smellerbee said. Longshot waved his hand dismissively.

"I don't want to sleep in the open." Smellerbee said. She began to try to put it together. Longshot sighed and dragged himself over to help her. "That wasn't so hard." Smellerbee said smugly when the tent was finished. "Yeah, since you didn't help much." Longshot said.

Smellerbee looked outraged. Longshot chuckled and Smellerbee hurled an insult at him. That only made him chuckled more. "I'm going to bed." Smellerbee slunk into the tent to sulk.

Longshot came in about a half hour later to find her curled up sleeping deeply and drooling. Smellerbee would never change. He thought as he crawled into his sleeping bag. Life without the Freedom Fighters was acutally pretty good.

Longshot and Smellerbee were gone.

Wait... not The End end? Is that actually The End? Whatever the case, that was a great chapter! And if was the last chapter, that was a fantastic way to close the story!
