A/N: This is what The Legend of Korra world would be like if Aang hadn?t beat Ozai, and the Legend of Korra characters are fourteen in the beginning of the story.
Prologue
Sometimes, good loses to evil. That was the case long ago, when Avatar Aang fought The Phoenix King, the next Avatar hasn?t been found. Aang passed fourteen years ago, The Fire Nation has been searching for the next Avatar for fourteen years. They haven?t found the next Avatar yet, but they have a way to show Fire Nation supremacy, they send kids, starting at age fourteen, to boarding schools. There are two boarding schools in each town, one for fire-benders and non-benders, then there is one for water and earth-benders, why not air you ask, there are no air-benders, they?re extinct, for good this time. I?m turning fourteen this month, and I?m being sent off to the boarding school. I have always hated the Fire Nation, they ruined my life, mine personally. My parents went against them, they saw a problem, and they fixed it. I?ve stolen to survive, and the Fire Nation has been trying to get rid of me for a long time. I ran up to a small Fire Nation market. I pulled up the hood on my jacket, shading my face. I ran up to one of the tables out front, I grabbed as much stuff as I could stuff into my jacket, then ran. I ran to the small shed on the outskirts of town. I jumped in the trapdoor at the top.
?Yay! Harisii?s back!? One small girl ran up to me.
?Yep!? I said, handing her some fruit I stole. ?Pass that out to the others in your room.? I commanded. I gave her a piece for herself as well.
?Hey, hows it going Harisii?? A laid back teenager asked me as he walked up, hands in his pocket.
?Good, I just robbed a store, I didn?t get caught.? I laughed.
?I think that those Fire Nation people are about as bright as half a melon. We just got a report of a small child, no more than four, she?s an earth-bender, the Fire Nation just destroyed her parents. Me, Solar, and Rainy are going to go get her. Want to come?? He offered.
?I can?t, I?ve got to pass out the rest of this food.? I sighed.
?I can handle that. Silver! Pass out this fruit, make sure everyone gets a piece, but try to save some for me, Solar, Rainy, and Harisii.? The guy said.
?Okay, Arctos!? Silver said, she was about my age, a month younger maybe. By the start of the next school year, me, Silver, and Arctos would be shipped off to boarding school, leaving all the other orphans with Solar and Rainy in charge, they were hardly ten though.
?Lets go.? Arctos grinned. We left, each of us had an oversized jacket with a hood that pulled down to cover our faces. We ran through the rainy streets, we got to a small alley way, there was a small girl sitting in an earth tent.
?Why did the fire-benders take my mommy and daddy?? The small girl cried.
?It?s okay, come on, follow us.? I smiled gently. I grabbed her hand and helped her up.
?Why are you dressed like that?? The small girl squeaked.
?The fire-benders don?t like us. But we can help you.? I assured her.
?Okay.? The girl said, she followed us, we went back to our hideout.
?This is your new home, welcome, and I hope you enjoy it here.? I said.
?Thank you, ma?am.? The girl bowed.
?Whats your name?? I asked gently.
?I don?t remember, the fire-benders made me hit my head.? She said.

CHAPTER 7
I spent weeks locked up in the cell. Me and the others didn?t look at the torches, not matter what. Now I knew why the water and earth schools started early, for brainwashing. Soon I learned to act brainwashed, the others followed my lead. In about a week we were let out, sent to the top to be educated. We played along for months. Two, three, four, it was too much. I couldn?t pretend for another minute, going by my new name. One day we ran into Bolin and Clairet, both acting brainwashed as well. Soon Lillabell ran into us too.
?I?m going to go find Harisii. I have an idea.? I said. I knew this jeopardized my freedom, but I had a plan. I found her and dragged her back. ?The full moon is tonight. Harisii, being a water-bender, is her strongest at the full moon. I?ve witnessed this once before.? I said, not mentioning Harisii?s past comment when I had snapped her out the first time. ?Maybe we can water blank her, reverse it.?
?That might work, but how?? Lillabell asked.
?I was thinking, since you?re a water-bender Lil, that you could try surrounding her with ice and water, reflecting and filtering moonlight. I don?t know if it will work, but we have to try.? I finished.
?Sounds like a plan.? Lillabell smiled. That night we gathered in the treetops.
?Alright, lets hope this works.? I breathed quietly. Harisii was sitting quietly in the center of a treetop. Lillabell stood a few feet away, weaving water from a deep basin we had brought and positioned in the branches below. She bended water around Harisii, freezing some to reflect moonlight, and letting some filter the moonlight. Harisii?s dark hair was set aglow by the light, her skin was soft with the light?s color. She had her eyes closed. Suddenly all of the water jerked and spiked.
?AH!? Lillabell exclaimed, as if something surprised and hurt her. She dropped to her feet. I rushed over and grabbed her arm, yanking her away from the edge of the tree.
?Whats wrong?? I asked.
?I just- I think- I just saw a spike of red and felt a hot pain through my whole body. I?m fine.? She said shakily.
?Should we keep trying?? I asked her.
?Yeah, no problem.? She smiled. I could tell she was hiding something but I didn?t push it. She stood up and surrounded Harisii with water and ice again. She held the water steadily, spinning it slowly, filtering the bright moonlight to a dim, watery shade. She held the ice, reflecting the full power of the moonlight. Soon her breathing was slow and rhythmic, he hands and arms moved so gracefully it was amazing. Earth-bending wasn?t a particularly beautiful to thing, but water-bending was like a bird flying, or a fox running. I watched in awe. The moonlight sparkled off the water, lighting up the whole of the treetops. Soon, everyone had fallen into a rhythmic pattern of breathing, they had relaxed as the moonlight reflected in turn onto each of their faces. The moon began to slowly slide down the night sky, setting and dragging the sun to rise. ?I think it worked.? Lillabell said quietly. Sometime through the night Harisii had fallen asleep, so i walked over and gently picked her up. I handed the sleeping Harisii to Bolin.
?Guys, I?m not staying. I can?t. I?m going to the North Pole and the South Pole to look for the Avatar. Once school starts, if Harisii is back to normal all of you who want to can follow, but if not stay and try and figure out a way to help her.? I said, I was leaving tonight, no matter what.

I forgot to have Arctos say, Clairet and Bolin aren't brainwashed either. They are the ones who have managed to avoid it. Oh, and so far, who is everyone's favorite characters?

CHAPTER 6
Lillabell was standing there, waiting for me.
?Follow me.? I smiled. I showed her around to everywhere she would need to know.
?Thanks, Arctos.? She smiled.
?Welcome, I gotta go. See you after school in the training area?? I asked.
?Okay.? She nodded. I ran off to class, and sat at my desk, waiting for the bell to ring.
?Class, today, we are going out to the jungle. We?re going to show you the damage that your nations have the in the past.? The teacher smiled. No matter how much I wanted to protest, I didn?t, I couldn?t let Silver lose another friend. We got on hiking boots and set off. We found ruined buildings overgrown with plants, graves, and more destruction. But I noticed something odd.
?Uh, all of this damage was done by fire. Not earth or water.? I pointed out.
?No, the Fire Nation tried to hide the damage.? The teacher smiled. Something was off, the look in her eyes, it was an absent blank stare, just like Harisii?s. I couldn?t even look at the teacher any more, I almost broke down into tears. Harisii would never be the same, and it was all their fault. I would get my revenge, one day. As we got farther into the jungle, more people seemed brainwashed. Something wasn?t right. I was getting thirsty, but whenever someone took the water they offered it messed them up.
?Arctos, do you need some water?? One teacher offered.
?No, I?m fine.? I realized how thirsty I was, I had started panting. I pinched the skin on my wrist, it drifted down slowly, I was dehydrated. I took a few deep breathes of humid thick air. This trip wasn?t to show us the destruction, it was to brainwash us, I suddenly realized. As we trudged through the jungle I was the only one who was refusing the water. We looped around and finally got to the school again. My vision was messed up and I felt light headed. I collapsed onto the ground, I couldn?t force myself to my feet.
?Arctos!? Silver helped me up, good, she wasn?t brainwashed. She helped me to the cafeteria and got me a bottle of water. I drank it slowly, and soon I felt better.
?Thank you, Silver.? I gasped. She hugged me, burying her head on my shoulder.
?Arctos, I thought you were gonna be like Harisii.? Silver cried.
?I wouldn?t leave you. I promise.? I soothed, petting her head. Her deep black hair flowed down her back.
?I thought I wouldn?t have anyone else left!? She wailed.
?I will always be here for you, Silver. I promise.? I soothed. Once she calmed down, I hugged her tighter.
?Promise?? She looked at me with bit green eyes.
?I promise.? I smiled. Silver hugged closer to me. ?I?ll never leave you alone. I promised that years ago, didn?t I?? I laughed.
?Yeah.? She smiled.
?I?ve gotta go. See you tomorrow.? I said, getting up and walking to the dorms, not even going to meet Lillabell. I was torn, I knew both girls liked me and I like both of them. I went to my dorm and went to bed. The next day, I noticed everyone was brainwashed, except me, Silver, and Lillabell. That day, guards took us all to the dungeon, the one where they took Harisii. Once we were in there, locked in cells, a fire-bender gave each of us some advice, don?t look at the torches.
CHAPTER 5
I sent rock after rock at the targets, knocking each one to the ground. I sent another rock towards one of the targets. I felt sweat beading my forehead, I stomped the ground, sending a jagged spike of rock out of the ground, knocking down the last target.
?Wow, that was impressive!? Someone clapped, I turned to see a girl, fourteen by my guess, she had long black hair and soft murky brown eyes. Her skin was sunburnt and slightly tanned by the sun. She was wearing the regular uniform, but the outer shirt she had on didn?t even come half way down her stomach. She had a long-sleeve undershirt the same length on, it was a blood red color.
?Hello.? I stammered, my cheeks were hot and red.
?Hi there, that was pretty good earth-bending you were doing.? She smiled.
?Th-thanks.? I swallowed hard, hoping to lessen the pink color on my cheeks. The girl blew her hair out of her face. She had a ponytail-holder around her wrist and she quickly pulled her back and tied it out of her face, revealing a disfiguring burn scar down her right cheek, going from below her eye to the corner of her jaw. Besides that one burn, she was perfect.
?I?m Lillabell.? She smiled.
?I?m Arctos.? I smiled back. She hopped over the wall to the courtyard and walked over, we were the only two here this late.
?Nice to meet you.? She grinned.
?Nice to meet you too.? I said.
?I?m new here, would you mind showing me around tomorrow?? She asked.
?Not at all, Lillabell. Meet me here tomorrow before class.? I said.
?Okay, well, I need go. Bye Arctos.? Lillabell waved as she ran and jumped over the short wall, running to the girl earth-bender?s dorm.
?Wow.? I said under my breathe. I beat the life out of a few more targets, then went to my dorm too. I was crushed that Harisii would never remember our adventures together, but at the same time, my life was the best it has been for a long time. I didn?t have to fight to find food, or only get a portion of it, and I met Lillabell, and Clairet. Well, things could get better or worse, and it wasn?t my choice. I would stay here as long as I had to, then run away, find somewhere secluded, away from the cities, away from the Fire Nation. I might run out into that jungle, where I could fend for myself, I always had. When I was five, the Fire Nation took everything away from me, my parents, my siblings, and my home, I lost my beloved pet and best friend, it was all the Fire Nation?s fault, and I would get revenge. This anger and hatred has been eating away at me since that day. I had a friend over, my friend, siblings, acouchi-mongoose, and I were playing in the living room, then we heard my parents scream, a group of fire-benders rushed down the stairs, defeating my friend, siblings, and Els, my pet. The house was set ablaze, I had to hide, I ran and hid under a food table, begging didn?t work, so I stole. I stole, I was a selfish idiot, until the day I took Silver in, then I started caring, I stole food for her before myself. She would eat somedays, and I would go hungry. I never complained, or worried her, then we found Harisii, then Solar and Rainy, and soon we were taking in so many kids we were practically running an orphanage. We were the Fire Nations most wanted juveniles, but all crimes would be forgiven after this. I went to bed, hoping to sleep well tonight, the next day I waited to meet Lillabell in the training yard.
