It was a normal day in the Valley of Peace. The bright yellow sun was shining, the air was humid and sticky as usual, and the streets were full of merchants and villagers bustling about. Po and the Furious Five had been training in their home, the Jade Palace, as usual, and everything seemed perfect. That is, until the temperature dropped. Fast. The once azure blue sky turned into a depressing ash grey at an alarmingly fast rate, and the soft breeze turned into a harsh, cold wind. The villagers of the Valley of Peace looked up to the sky, their faces heavy with fear and discontent. Weather like this had never shown up in the Valley of Peace, or even in China. What event had lead up to this awful weather?
The villagers didn't want to find out. So, in a rush they sprinted back into their large houses and small huts, the doors to their homes all slamming shut simultaneously. Up in the Jade Palace, however, Po, Master Shifu, and the Furious Five held their ground, simply looking up at the dull grey sky in wonder.
"Well," Po said in wonder, "it looks like we're experiencing some global cooling!"
Mantis scoffed at the giant panda. "Po, that was literally the worst joke ever."
"Hey!" Po replied. "That's offensive! I tried hard on that joke! I guess that some people just don't appreciate my sense of humour."
Tigress looked at the Dragon Warrior angrily, her blazing amber eyes clashing with the dark and gloomy colour scheme of the outside world. "Po, this is no time for jokes. There is obviously something very wrong here. Since when did the Valley ever get this cold? Something is causing the Valley of Peace to have this unnatural weather, and it's not something good."
"Sorry," Po apologized. "I was just trying to lighten the mood."
"And we appreciate that, Po," Master Shifu said abruptly, his silky red robe swaying in the harsh, cold wind. "But we have no time for jokes. Tigress is right. There is something wrong here. In all of my years as a kung fu master, I have never seen weather this atrocious. There is something causing this, and I know exactly what it is."
The Furious Five and the Dragon Warrior looked at Master Shifu and nodded rather nonchalantly. This was obviously no surprise. Master Shifu knew almost everything, kung fu related or not. Po had always thought that Master Shifu was secretly a god of some sort, only for one of the members of the Furious Five to tell him that he was being an idiot and shouldn't think like that.
"Come with me, students," Master Shifu said, opening the large mahogany door that lead into the training room. The Furious Five and Po then followed the small red panda into the room, their eyes gleaming with wonder, and for Crane, a little bit of anxiety.
Once the giant monochrome panda and the Furious Five got into the training room, Master Shifu told them to stay still until he got the scroll that contained the information about the weather disaster. When he walked away, everything was silent except for the wind occasionally hitting the wooden door and small footsteps coming from the red panda in the red robe.
After what seemed to be a long time of awkward silence and waiting, Master Shifu walked back into the training room, an old, torn scroll in his small little hand. On the scroll there were two words written in small handwriting: Ice Kingdom.
Okay, so my writing skills are rusty. Real rusty. I haven't written a fanfic on the KFP boards in a long time, and I apologize for that. But I am back and as active as ever (At least, as active as you can be when there's school going on). I hope you like this story with a cliche and generic opening that will hopefully get better later on.
Haha, that worked out that my questions have been answered in the next chapter. Thanks! Hrmm...I think almost any outfit Viper could wear would be very odd in real life...at least they have some accessories.
I look forward to the next chapter you post!
The weather sounds awful. I sure wouldn't wanna be in it.
i am so lazy look at me i can't even respond to comments properly
@rtfacts: Oh yes, the weather is rather horrible.
About the villagers, because I believe that the Valley of Peace is in Southern China, the only place they'd really be able to would be Australia (They could go to Africa, but that would be a much longer journey). And yes, the horrible weather has spread through Europe, Asia, all of the Eastern continents so far, except for Australia (and Antarctica, but it already has terrible weather) since it's much more down south. Also, the villagers would travel by boat, assuming that nothing bad happens to them...Thanks!
@batskee: Well, your questions are answered. However, Viper's outfit would probably look very awkward and weird if you were to see it in real life. Thank you!
About an hour later, everybody was finished preparing for the upcoming journey. As the members of the Jade Palace came out of their Asian-styled rooms, Po could see that everybody was wearing the same exact thing as him, with some modifications. Crane was wearing the same exact ash grey parka that the Dragon Warrior was wearing, except for the fact that the long sleeves had been cut off. Also, his dark blue shorts were exchanged for long, charcoal pants. Viper was also wearing the parka in a style similar to Crane's. Because she had no arms, the parka was basically just a long tube of thick, ash grey fabric paired with a hood. Mantis also had a long-but-tiny sleeveless parka.
The other members, however, had long-sleeved ash grey parkas. Monkey wore a thick parka that had very long and wide sleeves paired with dim grey pants. His legs seemed to be wrapped with rose quartz Shaolin wraps. Tigress was wearing the same exact thing she had been wearing earlier, except for the fact that her parka was on and her abnormally long hood up. Everybody looked extremely prepared for the upcoming quest and heinous weather.
"Are we all ready to go?" Tigress asked the inhabitants of the palace. Po couldn't stop looking at her glistening amber eyes.
"Yes," the four members of the Furious Five said in unison, with the monochrome panda nodding his head in a soft daze. "Then let us tell Master Shifu that we are ready for the upcoming quest." She then walked out of the hallway with everybody following behind her.
After they walked through the intricate halls with multiple colour schemes that clashed with their clothing no matter what, they got to the courtyard doors and opened them, and were coldly greeted by a rather stern-looking Master Shifu and an abominable sight waiting for them.
The sky was a dark charcoal colour, mixed in with various shades of grey that almost seemed too apalling to look at. Small chunks of hailstones with irregular shapes flew down furiously, as if they were attacking the enemy one small brigade at a time. Ferocious winds wailed angrily, singing barbarous songs to those who did not want to hear. Everybody covered their heads and eyes with their arms, tails, and other parts. The state of the Valley of Peace was one of the most terrifying things Po had ever seen in his life; and he had seen a lot of terrifying things in the span of his life.
"You all must go now!" Master Shifu yelled on the top of his lungs. Even then it was hard to hear him. "Once you start your journey, the villagers will evacuate the Valley of Peace and go down to Australia, so you must hurry! Defeat Raina! Destroy the Ice Kingdom! Go now!" The red panda then ran inside the Jade Palace, locking the large mahogany doors behind him so that nobody would be able to go inside with him.
"Well!" Tigress shouted, looking down at the small valley that was currently being ruined by the atrocious weather. "I suppose we have no choice now!"
There's not really anything to say about this chapter other than the fact that I have horrible pacing.
After Master Shifu announced that they would be going to the Ice Kingdom and try to defeat Queen Raina, he told Po and the Furious Five that they would need to pack warm clothes, food, water, weapons, and more for the journey. Then everybody, including the Dragon Warrior, went to their rooms to pack for their quest. Po could hear the rustling noises that were made when the inhabitants of the Jade Palace packed all of their items. So far, he was the only one who hadn't begun packing yet.
The monochrome panda was too upset to pack. How could they successfully defeat the queen of the cold Ice Kingdom with so little information? How far north did they have to go? Why did the Ice Kingdom want to freeze over China? And most importantly, what was going on? These were questions that could and would never be answered.
But as Po stood there in vexation, his enthusiasm slowly came back to him. He was the Dragon Warrior! He didn't need the knowledge on this stupid Ice Kingdom! Who cares if he doesn't know the Ice Kingdom's motives? He would defeat this vacuous Raina!
Po smiled and started to pack his items. In his beige-coloured room, the dark and gloomy sky outside of the palace reflected drearily through his see-through walls. After the Furious Five and he defeated Raina, the sun would coruscate through his walls like it always had, and everything would return back to normal.
The Dragon Warrior's thoughts were interrupted when he heard a soft knocking on his door. His door then slid open to reveal a rather mellow Tigress. Her sharp amber eyes sparkled like they always did, whether she was sad, angry, happy, or anything else. She was wearing a dull grey vest with red vine patterns, paired with a taupe grey Shaolin waist wrap and purple taupe pants. She seemed to be holding two ash grey parkas on her striped right arm, along with large blue-grey pants and an enormous timberwolf-coloured long-sleeved vest.
"These are for you," the female tiger said, holding out the clothes and one of the parkas. "We'll need them because the weather is going to get worse, which means that everything is going to get colder."
Po took the clothes and the parka that had a grey coulour scheme. He studied the clothes for a minute, and then said "What do you think about our quest, Tigress?"
The amber-eyed tiger thought for a moment. "I believe that we'll succeed in finding and defeating Raina. I do have my doubts, though. We have so little information on the Ice Kingdom."
Po nodded, and then said, "Yeah, me too. I think we'll be able to do it, though. We gotta believe!"
Tigress almost cracked a smile. "Yes. We do. Now, I must give the other their clothing and other items. Goodbye, Po." She then shut the door, leaving Po to his own devices.
"Yeah," he said to himself. "We can do it!"
Alright, that was Chapter 3! I don't really have anything to say about it, except that the journey has just begun!
@Batskee: Sorry about that. A new chapter is up now.
@Syrup240: Thank you so much, Syrup! I'm glad that you think that. Yes, I am back, and I will be here to stay for quite a while. Once again, thanks!
@Rtfacts: Ah, that's perfectly fine. I'm glad that you like it. And yes, I do wish that they knew more about the Ice Kingdom too, but alas, if I had listed all of the information about the Ice Kingdom, someone the surprise elements in the story would be ruined. Oh, and you are also my friend! I consider my readers and about everybody on the boards to be my friends. Thank you!
