Kowalski had imagined the explosion would be a horrible big ball of flame, like being hit by a meteor. It was ten times worse; the sheer force sent him flying into a wall so hard his entire body felt like one big bruise. ?The ceiling is gonna collapse! We have to get out of here!? someone was yelling. Kowalski coughed and squinted through the dust and debris?he couldn?t see the exit. He knew the ceiling wouldn?t hold much longer, that he had to get out now. If only he could find the exit... A low rumble signaled that he was out of time. In a plume of dust, the ceiling crumpled inwards like a piece of old newspaper, burying Kowalski under a mountain of concrete. His vision grew blurry? his breath came in ragged gaps? breathing, simply being alive, felt too hard? He squinted his eyes shut, remembering how this nightmare of a day began?
[Earlier that day?]
?ITS DONE!? Kowalski ran into the room proudly waving his new ray over his head?he?d made an infinitesimal amount of things, including a time machine, but this
wasthe crowning jewel of his inventions.
?It?s the middle of the night,? Sky said groggily. ?I need my beauty sleep!? The grey she-cat hissed at him. Sky, Ash, Kat, Jay, and Crystal had all arrived yesterday to visit the penguins.
?It?s a new ray that can transform any animal into a human? hopefully.? Kowalski explained.
?Hopefully?? Skipper asked, appearing from the kitchen area with a mug of fish-coffee in his flipper.
?Well, I haven?t tested it yet.? Kowalski powered up the ray and aimed it at himself. Closing his eyes tight, he pulled the trigger. A blinding white light shot at him, and his entire body felt hot and cold. When he opened his eyes everyone was staring up at him with expressions of shock. ?Did it work??
Rico promptly barfed up a mirror and handed it to Kowalski. Kowalski could do nothing but stare at it in shock that mirrored his friends?.
Awesome chapter! My turn!
And, well, I think mystery is a good element to have in any story. I always hate it when I'm reading a book and the answer is super obvious yet the main character doesn't figure it out until the end-- It's just boring because there's nothing to keep you interested, wondering what will happen next, up late at night reading it with a flashlight under your blankets so by the morning you're totally exhausted and keep almost falling asleep in first period (ha? I've never done that before, obviously?). As for the superpowers, it isn't exactly uncommon to have them. For an example, my POM OCs are actually an animalized version of my OCs for a different show (*cough fairy tail cough*) so the powers are kind of part of their character? I usually try to tone it down a bit but it's rare that I can leave it out entirely (I'm doing my best with this one). So? yeah?
let me guess...it's Parker's daughter, right?
also, no offense, but your making this fan-fic a bit too mysterious, I think.
I don't even know who Ash is, and if she has super powers, well....that's awkward. sorry.
I finally stopped procrastinating. Here ya go!
Kat sighed. It was after the long plane ride, and the groups had split up. Ash was already bickering with Skipper, and it hadn't even been thirty seconds, let alone thirty minutes.
"I know my way around this place. You, on the other hand, don't. That's why I think we should go this way." Ash pointed to her right. It was true though, at one point Ash had been to California on a solo mission.
"Well, I'm the leader, and I think we should go left!!" Skipper shot back. (Obviously, no one wanted to go down the middle, which was a dark alley.)
While the two short-tempered animal-turned-humans argued, a man with some kind of laser/eye patch riding a Segway spoke to a little red-headed girl.
"Shush, you two. Do you hear that?" Kat silenced the two. A sobbing noise was heard.
"What in the-"
A little girl was crouching near a trash can, crying her eyes out.
Private, having a soft spot for...just about anything cute, rushed up to the girl and comforted her.
"There, there. What's wrong? Where are your parents?"
"I'm lost! Please help me!" The girl wailed.
"Alright. Do you know where your parents are?" Private gently asked.
"Follow me!" The red-headed girl stood up, wiping off the last of her tears.
The girl led them away to the alley.
"I don't see your parents...or anyone for that matter. Where-" Kat was inturrupted by a kick in the shin.
"OWWWW..." Kat automatically grabbed the place where the girl kicked her, while doing so, she attempted to start her lightsaber, while Rico vomited up a baseball bat and a fire ignited in Ash's hands, preparing for combat.
"Daddy's boss was right. You stupid penguins are easy to beat!" The girl cried triumphantly.
"Whoa, wait...Sky...as much as I HATE To admit it... is right.ten people? that's a lot. we need to split up or something.' Skipper pointed out.
"ooh...that is a good point.Well, why don't we choose the groups we'll split up into, but stay close together until we get to California."Kowalski suggested.
Sky grudgingly nodded.
"Not a bad idea. Bird brain."
she added under her breath.
"What was THAT?" he snapped angrily.
"i said bird brain. Problem?"
"Yes, you little..."
Doris quickly intervened.
"There now, Kowalski. save your energy. we have too much to do without arguing."
he grudgingly backed down. "yeah, your right, Doris. sorry."
Crystal felt a pang of jealousy, but brushed it away.
"okay. let's pick our group."
Skipper promptly choose Rico and Private and Kowalski, but Kowalski protested.
"Actually, I was going to team up with...Doris."
he smiled affectionately at her, and she smiled back.
"Well...I think I'll go with them. Ash?"
"No, Skipper's team."
"Kowalski's.I need to keep an eye on my sister."
"Okay, let's go!"
:But, we don;t have plane money?"
Doris pointed out.
Skipper grinned evilly.
"Oh, Skipper, surely your not thinking..."
"No, I don't think...I act, with maximum FORCE!"
five minutes later...they've knocked their way into a plane, still nonchalant.
"Well, we got in, and nobody's tried to arrest us, anyway,"
Sky muttered under her breath.
Kowalski and Doris sank into seats at the back of the plane, close together.
"Whew! I'm getting getting tired of this mission.I just want to get back into my comfortable penguin body."
"Same here. but, there is an advantage."
"Yeah? what's that?"
Crystal sighed."Oh, why do I feel this way?
he says he does still love me, but...I'll never love any like him.I can't live without him. Well....at least i can be with him. that's enough...right?"
Sorry, not my turn i know, but...Well....1Kowalski
"Oh, that Sky! We'll get her one of these days."
Crystal smiled weakly.
"Yeah. Sure." she walked back to the group slowly, head down.
Kowalski sighed...his heart felt torn. he did love her, but..."No, I'm married. Doris is my only true love."
at the same time that he was thinking this, a human Doris was running towards the HQ.
"Got to find him!"
she stopped at the sight of a handsomely geeky man, looking after another girl, heading towards a group of people.
she gasped...she just knew it was him, even though he was human. her heart just knew.
"KOWALSKI!" she called.
he gasped and turned to see her running to him.
"Doris? But how...Whoa!" he almost got knocked over as she hugged him tightly and kissed his cheek. he blushed slightly.
"Doris, how did you get humanized?"
"Well, Frances was aiming for Parker, and got me instead."
"Well, I heard you're headed for California. I'm coming too."
'oh, Doris, I appreciate your offer, but..."
"I'm not offering, Kowalski."
for a moment they both gazed at each other.
"Thanks, Doris. come on!"
Sky shook her head when she saw Doris.
"DAN, DAN, DAN! drama! is she coming?"
she asked sneeringly.
Kowalski glared at her. "Yes, she is."
"But we already have too many people.she'll be nothing but a bur..."
"DONT! say it, Wing girl."
she hissed...she hated that.
Doris gazed at Kowalski admiringly, and took his hand in hers.he smiled at her, and Crystal stifled a sob.
Jay grabbed his sister?s arm and pulled her to the side as the rest of the group were talking. ?Sky, you have to stop picking fights. If you want to become a Gatekeeper, you need to learn to compromise, remember??
?Yeah, whatever, Geesh, you sound like Scarlet,? Sky mumbled. She sighed and the two headed back to group. Jay noticed that Ash and Kat were standing between Kowalski, Crystal and Sky and suppressed a groan. Really, why does she have to cause trouble everywhere she goes?! he thought?Ok, back to what I was saying before I was interrupted,? Kowalski said. ?The tracker says that Blowhole and his minions are in L.A.?
?Nice!? Sky grinned. If she had to fight crime, at least she could fight crime in sunny california.
?Wait a minute. How are we going to get there?? Ash pointed out. ?I mean, we don?t exactly have money for plane tickets.?
?That?s? a good point,? Kowalski hung his head. ?Why didn?t I think of that??
?It?s not your fault,? Crystal said, slipping her hand into his. Kowalski felt guilty as his hand tingled like the nerve endings were made of live wires. Stop it! You can?t feel this way about her! Sky?s teasing had hit a little too close to home. He loved Doris, so he couldn?t feel this way about Crystal. He was married! ?Crystal? can I talk to you for a minute??
?Sure,? Crystal allowed him to lead her away from the group, concern flashing in her eyes. ?What?s wrong??
?It?s just? Sky was right, as much as I hate to admit it. Well-- it?s not that I don?t love Doris. I do. But she was right about us? I love you, Crystal, but we can?t be together. I?m married, and you have a life to live. I don?t want you to be held back, waiting for someone who can never give you all his heart and time. You deserve better than that.?
?I? I understand,? Crystal looked away, ducking her head so he wouldn?t see the tears welling up in her eyes, threatening to overflow. ?But I?ll always love you.?
?I know, and I?ll always love you, too,? the two of them came together in an embrace.
?Hey, lovebirds, whenever you?re ready, we?ve got a flight to catch.?
**AUTHOR'S NOTE: Okay, I might not have gotten the personalities 100% correct...sorry if I didn't. (It is my turn, right??)**
The entire room had their eyes on Sky, Crystal, and Kowalski. "What did you say?" Kowalski was furious at Sky's mean (not to menion rude) comment.
"I said, you don't love Doris and use her to gain other's sympathy! Problem?" Sky snapped back.
Despite her...ahem..."trust issues" (in the words of Kat), Ash couldn't help releasing a small flame in her hand. She'd known the penguins for more than a year, but she still couldn't help it. She also could tell that if someone didn't back down soon, there would be a fight, which was the last thing they heeded in a situation like this.
Ash was nearly correct, because Crystal had to hold back Kowalski to prevent him from launching himself at Sky.
"Look, if we start fighting each other while the enemy has a human-making machine thing, then we might as well have surrendered. So I suggest you break it up before someone gets seriously hurt." Kat threw herself in between Sky and Kowalski.
"Fine..."Kowalski muttered. All Sky did was give her a glare.
It's my turn, right? Okay, (oh, BTW, great job on crystal! she's great!keep up the good work! okay, let me see....)
Kowalski was still a little bit dazed by being zapped, but he was able to clear his head slightly.
"crystal, are you sure this is a good idea?" he asked a bit doubtfully.
she shrugged, her face grim.
"I don't know. I just don't know, which is unusual."
she hung her head.Kowalski looked at her.
"You too, huh?" she nodded. they smiled at each other, a not unpleasant fluttering in their stomachs. Crystal shook her head, and Kowalski saw the regret in her eyes. he sighed and followed her.
Sky sidled up next to them, smirking, and crystal hissed in anger. if she had a tail, she'd be lashing it back and forth violently.
"So, you two done with your little romance yet?"
they both glared at her, but she kept going, faking surprise.
"Oh, that's right, Kowalski doesn't truly love Doris, he just pretends to to gain sympathy from the others." she snorted at her cruel joke.
haha, i know how you feel about teachers? *groans* Since I'm a bit of an artist my english teacher is having me draw pictures based on the theme of the book for extra credit, which is great because *hillbilly voice* i love me some extra credit? but since I'm doing one for each chapter, it's a lot to do.
But don't feel like you have to post soon, you can do it whenever you have time. Either me and 1Kowalski/KingAbby will keep up the fanfic or we'll just wait for some more response. It's seems more people are reading this week, which is great! ;)
NOTE: i am SO SORRY my darn quotation marks keep turning into ? marks! I thought this glitch was fixed, but it seems determined to haunt me! Nickfrog/ staff of nickelodeon (whatever you call yourselves? sorry): I hate to bug you but if you are reading this and you get a chance could you look into fixing this glitch? thanks.
