Part 1:
I look out the frosty window to see an army of trees standing as if they were standing guard of something.Bored, I look more closely and see colors scattered all around their bark. All of them have a different story even though they look the same.
Suddenly, the strange woman that is driving through the depressing weather takes me out of my trance."I am not sure what your power is or who you are, but Professor Xavier said that you have a very secretive personality. He also said you prefer driving instead of flying. My name is Ororo, by the way.You will probably be calling me Professor Storm, though, when you start taking my classes. What is your name."
Her white hair glistens in the shadowy air and my strange eyes meet her soft face for the first time since I got into this car.I could instantly see loss and hurt curve in bright colors across her face.To make the sadness stop, I closed my right (and black eye) so I would only see black and white, "My name is Dorrie."
Part 135:
The brisk lapse of the soft breeze touches my ankles and the back of my eyes start to water. This isn't exactly like home, but it is the best comparison. I can hear the other's footsteps behind me so I push back my tears jump onto the prickly ground.
Despite the thick trees overhead of us, there was still a patch of sunlight in a semi large circle. My mind decided it looked comfortable so I plopped against a toppled tree in the warmth of the light. After a few serene moments, the other three unsteadily exit the dark hole. They look confused as their eyes adjust to the new environment. Man, I wonder what that would be like. Maybe it resembles what it feels like when a symbol is so overwhelming it hurts me. Like the reason why Professor Ororo gave me her sunglasses the other day.
Once they all got all their senses back, they all sat in the sunlight as well. For a moment of awkward staring at each other, I thought that maybe Maggie was right. You can't become friends when someone is forcing you.
Part 134:
Lucas swiftly leads all of us through twists and turns in the dark tunnel. The sides are made of cold cinderblock and growing moss. The ground started as a cement floor, but it slowly became plant infested as we walked farther away from the entrance. Cooler air forms around us as the dim light becomes darker and darker.
If it wasn't for my power that let me see symbols and auras through any light, I would probably be stumbling and slipping like the other three. Hey, another advantage to my curse.
Then finally, a soft light sparked at the end of the long maze. My feet felt excited as I could sense the grass and wood. It made me so energetic that I passed my way to the front of the pack and ran.
My floppy and unsteady legs made me almost trip, but I kept getting faster and faster until the light filled the whole tunnel. Just as I am about to sprint out of the circular hall, I stop dead in my tracks.
Part 133:
As Lucas leads the way to the passage, we end up passing the kitchen. Even though it made Maggie impatient even more, I still quickly stopped inside to grab a couple snacks. It was almost lunch and who knows how long it might take to get to the woods. I had to agree with Hunter, the horizon of the thick woods did look far away. But it was the closest place to home that I could find.
After a few short minutes of rummaging, we started down the halls again. Lucas seemed to just be going in senseless circles, but then stopped to lean against a wall. He put his ear onto the glossy wood and started knocking.
"What are you doing?!" Maggie exclaims restlessly, but just as the words leave her mouth, Lucas pounds the wall with all his force. A piece of the wall pops out of alignment and opens like a door. It seemed like a secret passageway in a mystery movie.
Lucas quickly goes through the door and then pops his head back out. "Come on. You guys aren't scared, are you?" And with that, Maggie and Hunter jumped through the door as I reluctantly place my foot behind them.
Part 132:
They both looked at me like I had three heads. "The woods? That is so far away from campus, I don't even know how long it would take to walk there. That is crazy!" Hunter responds surprised.
"What about the emergency escape?" Lucas says softly which shocks all of us. Like I said early, shyness overtakes all! "I mean it isn't forbidden to go to the woods and Professor Storm said we could wander around." I am starting to like this kid.
Maggie is the one that really makes a 360, though. "Yeah that actually sounds fun. Spooky and risky at the same time. Maybe I will go with you guys."
We all look at Hunter to see his opinion and he finally just shrugs and goes with the flow. Yes! Know we have everyone in.
"Come on! Show us the way to the emergency passage way before I start to grow grey hair." Maggie says getting impatient very quickly. Before I know it, we pile out of the classroom and to the start of our adventure.
Part 131:
WHAT!? Am I hallucinating? Could the professor have really just left a group of teenagers with powers alone in a room? This is insane.
Now, if only someone would recover from the shock of this announcement. No one is even daring to say word as if trying to see if everything is really happening. Finally the boy named Hunter slowly stretches from his chair and yawns. "So, what should we do?"
I stared at him for a moment, trying to pay attention to him not his symbols. Almost simultaneously Lucas and I stand up to converse with him, but it was Maggie who spoke first.
"You guys don't actually want to do this, right?" The boys tilt their head at her in confusion, but I clearly understood. She was that kind of student. "I mean, she is like trying to force us to be friends. I don't know about you guys, but I do not make friends."
Agitation hits the pit of my stomach and I hold it back from my throat. "She gave us an opportunity and I think we should take it. It isn't very often that teachers give us breaks and this is one of those rare times." Not knowing what came over me, I turn to the boys and excitedly continue my newfound bravery. "Where showed we go? Maybe the woods?"
Part 130:
"Today, though, we are not going to take any trips or observations." Professor Ororo, or Storm, says sending disappointment into all our spirits. "As you all know, teamwork is very important in a group and this comes from a team knowing each other. And actually knowing people does not usually come when you are being watched by an adult. So, every now and then, I will leave all of you guys to 'hang out'."
All of us stared at her wide eyed. This is definitely not usual for a teacher. I mean am I dreaming or is it April Fools day. "Now I expect everyone to behave because there are ways to keep track of you, but I will be in my office grading papers. The only thing I ask of you is that all of you stay together. I do not mind if you stroll around the school, but do not ruin this on the first day. All I am asking is for you guys to talk and do whatever you kids do to make friends."
We all stare at her with astonishment as she grabs a few books from her desk and travels straight to the door. "Just please do not kill each other."
Thank you sooooo much! I'm so excited that you'll have Shadow in your story! Freaking out! I have my personal character if you want (you don't have to use her if you don't want to):
Mutant Name:Cougar
Name:X(I don't tell anyone)
Age:12(I don't age)
Powers: Adamantium skeleton and retractable claws that unsheathe from my fingertips, accelerated healing, animal-like instincts, hearing, and scenting
Personality: Fierce and independant, I don't like Wolverine, Proff. X, or Cyclops one bit and my only friend at the Institute is Rogue
Features:Shoulder length sandy-colored hair, bright green eyes, I wear Sabretooth's jacket
History: Don't remember any farther back than three years ago except for the words 'Weapon IX' And lived on the street with a gang of other mutants until they were all captured by the MRD (except Cougar) then I was on my own until i met Sabretoothwho helped take care of me. Then I heard about the Institute and decided to give it a shot.
Part 129:
"Hello class! Or should I say small group." Ororo chuckles as she walks swiftly in the room. She seems to be happy to see our small size. "Well, none of you have really experienced when this class is in a dormant stage, but it is a bit different from what you are used to."
All four of us sat up a little to listen to what else she will say. "During this time, we can focus more on you individually. Normally walk around campus or visit some of the power classes. Of course, you are not allowed to participate in their activities, but we can still observe and ask questions. This reasonably easy class will turn into a very easy class. I enjoy this and you will enjoy this, but I will warn you. Anyone who breaks the rules and put themselves or others in danger will ruin this fun time for everyone."
My back suddenly slouches into the window behind me. I hate it when one person makes a stupid decision and everyone has to get punished. This method is threatening, but unfair to the careful students like me. Although, the thought of an easy, fun, and exciting class would appeal to anyone. This is going to be fun.
Mutant Name:Cougar
Name:X(secret)
Age:12
Powers: Adamantium skeleton and retractable claws that unsheathe from my fingertips, extreme healing, animal-like instincts, hearing, and scenting
Features: Shoulder length sandy-colored hair, bright green eyes, fangs, wears Sabertooth's jacket
Personality: Fierce and independant, don't like Wolverine and my only friend at the Institute is Rogue
History: I lost my memories three years ago and only remember the words 'Weapon IX', lived on the street ever since with a gang of other mutants
Part 128:
Quickly, so that it didn't just seem like I'm standing at the door, I sat behind all three of them next to a window. This way I could read their symbols without seeming like a freak. At least I have a few minutes before Professor Ororo will get here, so that I could search.
The only girl, who is sitting in wooden chair with her feet propped up, seemed to have the name Maggie. I think she is some of my other classes because she is a little familiar. Just from the first glance of her, I could tell that she wants to be perceived as evil. Of course, after a little digging, I could see that she was quite soft and sentimental. Either way, I don't think she is the kind of person you want to get into a fight with.
One of the guys with blonde hair and blue highlights was named Lucas. His personality reflects what I am usually. Extremely shy! Of course this school has modified that for me, but not for him. He isn't a loner, but he is just very silent. Maybe I will hold back at looking at his past.
The final person is also male and is named Hunter. He seems like he goes with the flow, but is very brave. His symbols show that he can duplicate and turn invisible, but his powers are very faded. This means that he is not very well developed in his mutant powers. Things like that can make a person worried because, well, anything could go wrong. Like with Terrance?s power.
Sigh, Terrance moved up today, and so did Francis, and then Damien. It also seems like a lot of other people moved up, too. It is just a little depressing to see so many people move on while you stay still.
Part 127:
No, no. Dorrie you cannot think of her. That memory is too painful.
"Hey! Dorrie? Earth to Dorrie!"
I almost jumped out of my skin as Dell's voice reached my ears. Her facial expression looked concerned, but I just smiled in reply. She then eased and gathered her books together.
"Well, you weren't paying attention the whole class. Your lucky, miss, that we don't have homework tonight. You would most likely fail it." Her friendly scowl made me laugh, but my mind was surprised that I was thinking that long.
Dell waved good-bye to me and rushed to her next class. Power Duals definitely makes the rest of your day pressed for time. At least next is Powers Intro.
My feet speeded to the classroom and stopped almost immediately after entering. Wait this is the right room, right? There are only three other people besides me. Man, I thought the class size before was small.
Not only that, but they are classmates that I haven't even engaged in yet. Great, meeting more new people.
Part 126:
Ugh! I hate thinking of my old school and all the people that refused to be my friends, or even acquaintances. Not even the teachers liked me. They couldn't ridicule me like the other students, but they still made me aware of it.
Sure if that wasn't bad enough, but home seemed worse sometimes. My parents liked their family's reputation, but I was an inconvenience to this. It hardly felt as if I had a family at all. If it weren?t for my brother, everything would make me feel like an outsider. Sure, he was freaked at first about his lil' sis being a mutant, but soon changed.
One day I was home alone like every other day. At least that wasn't until my brother got home from soccer practice early. Not wearing my contacts besides during sleep was a strict rule my mother intended me to keep. The only time I went without was when I wasn't anywhere near another soul.
Once my big bro laid his eyes on mine, he changed. He picked me up over his strong shoulders and carried me to a room with huge, bright windows. As he stared at the white and black and white again, the symbols on his skin became softer and more sympathetic. After about ten minutes, tears swelled in his light blue irises and he gave me my first bear hug.
Even though I think that my sight is the worst thing that could have happened to a person, they did help me in this instance. It may seem like a strange relationship, but it was the closest I had at the time. At least until I met her.
yay! your back!!! and i'm sorry that your sick. I noticed a lot of new people asking if they could have there characters in your story. So if you want to back off a bit from using my character i'm cool with that. I've also realised that I may have made my character's backstory a bit too detailed. So if you want to take off or add anything, you can do so without any objections from me. P.S. This story is so amazing!I can't wait to see what happens next, I really love your character Dorrie.
