From their freaky encounters with the Flying Dutchman to the hair-rising tale of the Hash-Slinging Slasher, here are Bikini Bottom's scariest spooks!

The Krusty Krab’s most trusted (and only) fry cook is silly above all else  - but he and the Bikini Bottom crew have had some seriously eerie encounters over the years, too! We decided to take a look back at some of Spongebob and friends’ spookiest scares. Scroll if you dare!

  1. Mr. Krabs’ Journey to the Dutchman’s Triangle

The Flying Dutchman and Mr. Krabs in the Dutchman's Triangle.

Who knew jelly donuts falling from the sky could be a bad thing? Mr. Krabs’ journey to the Dutchman’s Triangle was totally chilling…but the Bikini Bottom gang has been through chillingier.

Episode: “Spongebob Squarepants vs. The Big One” (S6E11)

  2. Attack of the Alaskan Bull Worm

Spongebob Squarepants and Sandy Cheeks run from the Alaskan Bullworm.

Sandy Cheeks is known for her can-do attitude, smarts, and being fiercely protective of her friends. When the notorious Alaskan Bull Worm begins terrorizing Bikini Bottom, Spongebob and Sandy team up to take it down. Sandy thinks she has the whole thing handled…until Spongebob gently points out that she hasn’t defeated the worm… just its TONGUE!

Episode: “Sandy, Spongebob, and the Worm” (S2E40)

  3. Bikini Bottom Gets Zombie Patty'd

Mr. Krabs turned into a Zombie Patty!

How does that old saying go? “You are what you eat?” Who could forget the time that Mr Krabs’ Secret Patties had all of Bikini Bottom morphing into patty zombies?! Sure, they were tasty…but at what cost?

Episode:  “Krusty Krab Creature Feature” (S2E22)

  4. Patrick Unzipped

Patrick turns out to be a gorilla in disguise!

Shout out to this Gorilla in a Patrick suit for proving once and for all that not all surprises are good surprises. Also, what was with ripping Spongebob in half, huh?! Aggressive. (Don’t worry, Spongebob is just fine now.)

    Episode: “Friend or Foe?” (S5E1)

  5. Say Hello to the Flying Dutchman

    Meet the Flying Dutchman!

It all started with Mr. Krabs’ terrifying camp-fire story about the ghostly sea pirate. The almost-too-terrifying-to-be-true tale became VERY real, VERY fast when Spongebob and Patrick found themselves face to face with his ghastly green glow!

    Episode: "Shanghaied" (S2E13)

    Patrick and Spongebob sell chocolates.

    Episode: “Chocolate with Nuts” (S3E52)

  7. The Rise of Sponge-Gary

    Spongebob turns into a snail.

There are two things we learned from the time Spongebob and Squidward turned into Gary. Number one, never let Squidward watch your pet snail when you go out of town. Number two, never accidentally inject yourself with medical-grade snail plasma!

    Episode: “I Was a Teenage Gary” (S1E13B)

  8. Spongebob vs. The Rock Bottom Bus

Spongebob waits for the bus at Rock Bottom.

Also known as the “bus episode,” this one takes us through Spongebob’s nightmarish travel delays after spending an afternoon at Glove World, located in the far away town of Rock Bottom. No matter what he does, he can’t seem to catch the bus back to Bikini Bottom. Not only is it creepy, it’s infuriating to watch.

    Episode: “Rock Bottom” (S1E17)

  9. DoodleBob

    Spongebob and Doodlebob face-off!

An ongoing feud with your evil twin? Not ideal. Doodlebob returns to torment Spongebob a handful of times - and each time is creepier and more twisted than the last. If you’re reading this, it’s your sign to put down your magic pencil before you accidentally make a moehoymenoy-ing monstrosity!

    Episode: “Frankendoodle” (S2E34)

  10. The Hash-Slinging Slasher

The terrifying tale of the Hash-Slinging Slasher!

What starts out as a harmless prank on Spongebob by Squidward while they work the Graveyard shift turns uber creepy very quickly. As each of the three signs of the Hash-slinging Slasher start to come true, Squidward realizes that the prank he was playing might not be just a prank anymore…our top pick for scariest Spongebob spook!

    Episode: “Graveyard Shift” (S2E36)
